Hello Medusa9,

I'll try not to be too longwinded but here it goes: I reside in NY & am a seventies & eighties baby. I have been a lover music as long as I can remember. Love to collect music books & bios, mainly on Motown. There are a couple more Motown books that I'm still in pursuit of & then my collection will be complete. I have a whole bunch of teen mags from the early eighties, so I'm also quite sentimental. I also love to purchase music, especially Soul, R&B & Motown. In between that, I like to read, travel & learn new things about people & places. The computer has become my latest hobby & am trying to learn as much of it as I can. Well, hope that wasn't too boring. Hope your day is a good one.

Peace!

All-righty - I'm a PITTSBURGH girl, aged 22. I'm a doo-wop, soul, jazz, old-time gospel, pop (of the Sinatra and Doris Day variety, not Britney and Justin) and rockabilly fan. My collection of records, books, and CDs reflects as much. I've been listening all my life, collecting since 10, I guess. I'm a law student, about to enter my 2nd year, hoping for a career in entertainment law (but was there any question) or employment law.

I get my kicks listening to music, particularly Miracles records, going to shows, asking questions about the world around me, writing lyrics, singing, record shopping, shopping for clothes and accessories, fashion magazines. I'm currently reading "the devil wears prada" for anyone who wanted to know. :-) And I love to dance to 60s soul records, this is why it's my dream to go to the UK and do nothing but dance at all-nighters.

Hi Medusa...and happy belated birthday!!! I don't really get a chance to post much, but I try to throw in a comment or two now and then. I've read many of your posts and have figured out that we come from the same stompin' grounds. I was a child of the fifties and teen of the sixties...grew up in the I-75 - 7 mile area...Marshall elementary, Nolan JH...wasn't a "Doughboy" though, Cass Tech, class of '70! My "Super Soul Claim to Fame" is that I hung with Motown song scribe Ron Miller's daughter in high school. Hung around with various rock n roll folks through the seventies. Moved to Northern California in 1980 and here I stay. Haven't been back to the city in a couple of years, but do get there once in a millenium. Anyhow, pleezed ta meetcha!!! and you can call me Nadya!

I collect vinyls (mostly Detroit related soul stuff), I'm writing songs and try to make music (guitar - no soul stuff, compares more to the Pearl Jam-style) and I'm trying to race cars (Formula Ford open wheeler - I only live 10 minutes away from Hockenheim Formula 1 racetrack) in the near future!

Pretty much stuff going on over here...but I hope to make it back to Detroit in Mai 2004!!!!!

Hi Medusa
I saw recent thread in which you mentioned my name (not knowing who's who...and if they are in the business or not)...so here it tis.

I'm not in the music business or even on the fringe...I'm just a "liner note junkie" and a lover of all good grooves. I learned the difference between s&#t and shynola from my Father, who loved ALL good music (but had a great affinity for McCann & Harris and Isaac Hayes) and my Sis...who was a trained jazz musician. My tastes were developed listening to the "local" sun up to sun down AM R&B station (The Mighty 690-KZEY), The Randy's & Ernie's Record Mart (John R., "HossMan", etc.) shows on WLAC, and Wolfman Jack & "Stumblin' Blue" on the "Pirate" 100,000 watt station in Mexico.

Living 40 miles north of Paris (France ! LOL) Flying all around the world is my job but music is my life... I have been into it since I bought my first 45 back in 67... Since then I have gathered a respectable collection and I have also started a music magazine in 1995... It's called FUNK-U Mag and it allowed me to meet and interview a lot of my heroes... The title of the mag doesn't says it all as we also talk about Motown, soul, jazz , just about anything in black music between the 50's and the early 80's (sorry none of what is being mostly played on the radio these days!)
My second passion if for pastry as I am a trained pastry chef...
BTW I loved the thread (a little while back) on soulfood and the fried chicken and waffle!
I love this forum but it sometimes goes a little too fast for me to be able to read everything as I can plug in only when I am at home in between my flights...

I work for a cluster of three AM radio stations in Charleston, SC. I've been in radio for over 20 years and they say if you stay in radio long enough, you'll eventually be back on AM but I'm not laughing at that joke anymore! I've had alot of extra time to post here in the past week because we got a bullseye lightning hit at our studios, which knocked all three stations off the air, fried all three control room boards and toasted the computer system that runs all three stations. Luckily the owner has "Act Of God" insurance so we're in the process of getting all new equipment. Re-cutting all those commercials for the trio of stations, however, is going to be a tsunami of pain!

Hey Medusa!

I believe you were in Detroit for the big event--don't think anyone introduced us!

Anyhow, I'm a 39-year-old record collector and music buff from Cleveland (the folks across the pond would refer to someone like me as an "anorak", and those who I've met have done so). My house is overrun with music--I have close to 6,000 45s, maybe more (just picked up a handful of singles a couple of days ago), over 2,000 LPs, and about 1,000 CDs. I do have cassettes, but those are mainly for taping songs off CDs I borrow from the library or they're tapes that I get from fellow collectors (cassettes are too fragile).

I'm also an (extremely) amateur singer who can be found at most karaoke bars in my neck of the woods.

My taste in music is varied (if you've seen my posts in the past, you probably gathered that): I love mainly '50s, '60s and '70s music of many styles (except for elevator music), and I prefer the lesser-known sounds of those periods (that's why I'm heavily into Northern soul and garage bands). Some '80s music I can handle, but you lose me when you get into the '90s. I do listen to some current music, mainly country.

I think I've rambled on enough for now. BTW, Happy Belated B-Day!

Best,

Mark
