Sue:
Wonderful article. Smokey kicked a-- at the Apollo when he was here almost two weeks ago.
As indicated in prior threads, Smokey also showed the "kiddies" at Russell Simmons' DPJ a thing or two about poetry.
My favorite:
"Just like a desert shows a thirsty man,
A green oasis when there's only sand,
You lured into something I should have dodged,
The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage."

Another tremendous article from you about one of Motown's all-time greats. And Smokey is 63!!!! I don't believe it, he still looks and sounds great.

Susan! Thank you SO much for the article. There are not enough words to describe how great an artist Smokey is and how much I love and admire his work. Always good to see him getting lauded.

Nice Susan Whitall...
I liked his comment on his talent for writing: "It's just a love of mine, and a gift from God," he says."

Interesting what Smokey had to say about today's street 'rap' and "poetic" justice, which was found to be in favor of, that it's all really good, that it sets the tome for the time at the present....
Naturally, in her line of work she gets to meet (and has met) some really fascinating people-- like Smokey Robinson....
When it comes to music and reporting artist entertainment in the Detroit newspapers, SHE IS Detroit's very finest... thank you for your exceptional written 'Smokey' article in the Detroit News.
Great piece... and thanks again, Susan Whitall!
