recorded at United Sound , I believe this is the first national hit record from Detroit. Dr. Ross does a take off on it called Industrial Boogie, check that out. John Lee Hooker is my favorite blues man with a style like no one else,

I have a video with John Lee Hooker on it singing
'Train,keep on moving"
or thereabouts
in a club over here around 1963/4.

It really moves as well.

I'm listening to the rest of the cd right now and it's wonderful. Yes USS.

I love this pic of Hastings Street. The USS item at the top was very kindly sent me to me by someone who bought an old Ampex from there many years ago.

A total tragedy that Hastings St and Paradise Valley are now gone.

I caught Bernie Besman on TV a couple of years ago...amazed to see him being interviewed but he was the guy behind the releases as you know.

In addition to producing, Bernie played organ on one or two of Hooker's recordings.

My favorite John Lee song is The Waterfront, recorded in '66. It's basically a monologue with incomparable intonation and sublime acoustic guitar work. I have it on his Chess CD, "House of the Blues" that Charly put out. I saw him live a couple of times in London, hoping he'd perform it - but he tended to overdo his boogie woogie stuff.
When he appeared on Desert Island Discs (A BBC radio programme) the presenter, a clueless Sue Lawley, was outragiously patronising. Can anyone remember that?

A correction - John Lee is playing an electric guitar on The Waterfront.
