Can anyone confirm or deny any of the following.
Rick Wakeman actually played keyboards on the rare soul record by Jimmy Thomas called
"beautiful night" on parlaphone records.
and it was supposedly the first ever session that Rick Wakeman appeared on.

Yvonne Fair made the original of James Browns track of "I feel good'
called
"I found you" on King Records.

Magnificent Montague was a lead singer with the Romeos.

Walter Kimble was on tenor on Robert Parkers classic "barefootin'"
and not James Edwards.

Also that on the same track that Willie Tee played piano and not Edward Frank.

Water is known for work on such greats as Benny Spellmans "fortune teller" and Alvin Robinsons "something you got"as well as others.

Did Excello Records actually by all the Wallace Brothers Sims master tapes.

Pearl Woods wrote and produced for Bobby Bland.

Fred Parris with the Restless Hearts cut another version of The Five Satins classic
"I Remember(in the still of the night)"

Lorraine Ellison cut "stay with me"
after Frank Sinatra failed to show for a session and she was backed by a forty-piece session band.
She recorded for a record Label called
Sharp Records(anyone heard of it)

all in-put appreciated

Mel;
Savoy issued the second version of Jimmy's "The Masquerade Is Over" on the Sharp label in 1960.
Jimmy tells me Jack Hook, Teddy Reig(Roost/Regal), & Herman Lubinsky(Savoy) were putting stuff out together on different labels, switching up amongst themselves. Jimmy first recorded it in 1950 Royal Roost 530/B-side: I Got It Bad (and that ain't good).

Mel;
Jimmy's bio. has been out since 10/2/02 but due too space alotted it doesn't cover everything. Jimmy has so much knowledge of behind the scene and of personal experiences in the business & on the road for over 60 years it sure would be interesting, esp. to tell the raw truth on every aspect of his life. I've learned so much from him, but don't think there is the time or the energy unless some professional writer wanted to write about the business side of it & Jimmy's true personal life, the truth hurts when people have done him wrong and people wouldn't like it when their heads rolled be it family or business associates. He was unjustly treated by both not to mention the ex's!!! I don't think he'll ever see the justice he truly deserves. He did a T.V. docu/interveiw this morning for Tri-C Jazz Festival about his long life in the business and stated he knew he would never reap the benefits due to him, he never cared about being mega-rich like many of his famous admirers/friends in the business but just wanted what was due to him and the security to meet the necessities in life comfotably. Mel; do you have an e-mail address your able to share? I would like to send you something.

I'm still unsure if this is Little Jimmy Scott of "It rained 40 days and nights".

A song bursting with energy.

Please advise.

David
no its not
I asked Soulsister and were talking an entirely different Little Jimmy Scott.
The one above is a jazz artist of hifg esteem David.
Bobby Eli along with Soulsister have mentioned various hings regards this Mr Scott.
But unfortunatly its all in the archives.
I think you will find some relevent info on a thread headed Soulsister/Little Jimmy Scott which I opened not to long ago david.

Apart from anything this Mr Scott knew and sang with my at a push,my all time fave singer
Big Maybelle as well as others.
(If not my fave then its between maybelle, esther philips and bessie smith)

I am sure Soulsister would be only too happy to answer anything from you david,
shes a really nice lady.
hope this helps.

David;
No its not. I'll never understand why someone would use the name Jimmy had been given by Lionel Hampton & called for 11 years PRIOR to this unknown guy who's record came out in 1960? Did this guy ever make any other records besides It Rained 40 Days & 40 Nights? Who is he? My Little Jimmy Scott is the well known jazz vocalist Legendary Jimmy Scott. My Jimmy had R&B/Soul type crossover records such as "Ëverybodys Somebodys Fool"& "The Masquerade Is Over". There was only one recognized Jimmy Scott who inspired scores of singers (a singer's singer) such as Billie, Dinah, Etta, Nancy, Marvin, Stevie, Frankie V.,Frankie L., Micheal J.,Joe P.,Johnny Ray and scores of other artists who say he influenced them. Ask any one of them, in recent years Madonna, Bruce S., Lou R., Liza M.,Flea, David S.,on & on... I think that should answer this confusion between Jimmy the legend and an obscure R&B (I assume) singer who made the above 45. you mentioned. I hope this helps David.
All The Best, S.S.

Mel,

The Romeos that Magnificent Montague was involved in were an instrumental group from Los Angeles
- they have no connection with any other Romeos
group, including Kenny Gamble's old group. This
piece of misinformation crops up everywhere.

Once and for all Kenny Gamble and the Romeos
are NOT the group who had a minor hit in '67
with "Precious Memories".

As far as I know the Magnificent one has never
recorded any vocal tracks - he's a DJ who dabbled
in playing congas.

Mel,

Re the Wallace Brothers, as far as I remember
the entire catalogue of the Sims label was sold
to Excello by owner Russell Sims - most of it has
never been reissued and probably won't be.

The Sharp label here is a strictly gospel label,
it's not the Chicago label that Bunky Sheppard
owned.

Pearl Woods did write for Bobby Bland - as for
producing him I don't think so.

The Little Jimmy Scott I'm referring to recorded for the Giant label in Chicago.

"It rained 40 days and nights" was written by Joshie Armstead, produced by Mike Terry

Publisher was Colfam - Melvin Collins, who was married to Joshie?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Soul Sister (68.73.167.246) on Friday, June 27, 2003 - 01:50 pm:

David M.
Iam aware of that, in fact the record was selling at a bid of $225.oo, this is a deception as people were calling me thinking it was the real Little Jimmy Scott the legendary jazz vocalist, my Jimmy. Can Mike Terry shed some light on why this person used Jimmy's name (Little), was this to fool the public? It sure confused them! Who is the UNKNOWN one on Giant?
Has he ever made any other released records? Where is this guy today? Someone affliated with Mike Terry in Detroit should know.(?)
David, thanks for your help in trying to solve the mystery of "who" this guy on Giant label is.
I'm going in the pool now, its hot here, I'll check back later. THANKS from me & the 'real'Jimmy Scott.

before you go barrier reefing it,
just a thought,
have you heard the record called
"it rained 40 days and nights"
its a good track and was also done by Garland Green on the Gamma record label(no.103).

Very bad when somebody uses another artists name though
totally bang out of order.
Catch you later Flipper.

Mel;
I have not heard the record. (I do like Garland Green's voice tho). I would like to hear it. My point was as you said the imposter syndrome, what is the point of using another artist's name that has long before been established and has a huge fan base ? Was it done delibertly? And who is this guy? That is my question.

mel and then some

intresting question about Wakeman. Check out the Rick Wakeman Communication Center at rwcc.com.
This is Wakeman's official website and has a list of all of his session work. It does list what is believed to be his first session (in which I don't remember what it was) but as a bit of trivia, Bowie's Space Oddity appears to have been his second session.
