Let's Cough It Up

Something that D Meikle said during the recent shitstorm has stuck in my mind: The bit about only getting 12 financial contributions in 21 months. Doesn't it seem like eveybody who uses this board on a regular basis should kick in a little something, even if it's only 20 bucks a year or whatever? Consideration should be given to the fact that this whole thing operates on his and Lowell's dime. As I'm typing this, as I glance left I can see the link near the top of the bar that says "Support Us"; I'm gonna send Lowell a check today.

Ditto. Mentioned the same thing to Dora last night. This place is better than any magazine I subscribe to....well, maybe not TRAINS....., but it's definately worth our support. Didn't think about it until Dave brought it up.
Thanks for reinforcing it, Marshall.

Folks:
I mentioned to David Meikle that I'd be more than happy to help in any way to keep this engine going. My money order will go out this weekend.

I hope you folks will do the same.

Ditto here for Bobby and myself. Just give us the information so we can get the ball rolling.

PS I would like to buy one of the posters, as you all know, Bobby and I missed the soiree due to his untimely relapse.

Good call, MHC. Actually, we should have a 'support' thread from time to time to remind people of the maintenance costs. When I donated (using my Mastercard) I got emails from Lowell and David thanking me.
I recall that only 1% of public radio listeners contribute to NPR. I hope we are going to beat that statistic.
As Sis suggested, selling posters would help too. At our next event, SisDetroit should sell them. I've seen her in action; everyone in the joint would own one, guaranteed!

Jim G - LOL - You are right. I went to Ann Arbor to have a musicly good time, and take photos, but Marcus and Joe just wouldn't let me off that easy. (LOL)

(What I got out of the deal was two t-shirts, two programs from the Apollo, and two CD's. I was elated.) I've been going to sleep listensing to music by Mr. Marcus Belgrave.

So, Mrs. Lowell, I will be sitting by you the next time. :o)

In reaction to David's point (and subsequent apology for the friction surrounding the presentation of that point) I "paypal-ed" a donation less than two minutes before opening this thread. Good call. It probably would be a good idea to start or bump a post explaining how to support the forum every couple of months for those of us who have been cruising along blissfully unaware of the "support us" link at the top of the page.

Regards,
Ken

Marshall, always the voice of common sense...For all the times I click on stuff to Paypal, this was one thing I should have done long ago.

I have given David & Lowell a donation.
Had it not been for this site I would still be searching for people who are relevant to Tammi's career, life, and music..I felt it was important to give back to SD for what they have given to me on a personal level and for what they have contributed to this book...

My cyber family is here..
Ralph - the italian brother I never had
Bobby & Vonnie - my dear friends
Stu - my dear friend
Paulie - my Goom-ba
Sue - my dear friend
Weldon - my dear friend

And all these dear friends too...
Carl, Ritchie, Dave, John Lester, Sis,
Chris, Common, Thommygirl, Nish, Stephanie, Nancy,
Russ, Larry, Michaal-CleoHarvey, Kevin, Mike M, Jay, Teddy,Randy, Andy, John Barry..and so many others..I come here to be inspired...My whole life is about finishing this book and when I need a place to go where Tammi is loved I come here for inspiration...And I just read and read....

It's about the music and the way we all have connected....that's the soul of it!

Vickie :)

Any chance of a UK source for the poster if available.I worry about overseas card transactions,so do not buy on the net.Incidentally I make badges and would be happy to donate some as fundraisers, but am not sure who could distribute them. The offer of button (badges) is there anyway.

In the archives I mentioned numerous times to please support this forum, weather it be DETROIT or NORTHERN.At times I felt like I was putting my nose where it didn't belong, but I see more and more people posting, which this forum is for and all about, but the percentage in donations is in the red dont sound right. You all are supporting our love of life here,MOTOWN and NORTHERN SOUL,and we will all fight to keep these important values of our life going forever,so support the place where we all kan let it all hang out,or the forum will no longer be a place to let the whole world know how you fell about the love of our times.I donated $100.00 last year, while at the Clawson,I offered another $100.00 to DAVID,the wonderful person that he is refused to take it.Well,i'ts going in the mail anyhow.Look what we have all done here for the FUNK BROTHERS with our love and support, with more moneys,we kan do the same for so many more who need their ever so deserving rights reconized and in the limelite. As profit Jones would say, throw your money against the wall, all the money that sticks is yours, all that falls to the floor is the forums,so do it now."COUNT"

As one of the original 12 contributors, I've got to admit I was shocked to find myself in such small company. In addition to being the cheapest guy I know, I may possibly have the crappiest income of anyone who posts here, but if anything in today's world merits support, it's this website. And , despite the fact that I'm not going to be able to pony up what I did last time (I was relatively flush for a minute) , as long as this site exists I'ma cough up SOMETHIN'.

On a related note, music isn't the only artform of value to come out of Detroit. There are also a number of visual artists (painters, graphics etc) that came out of Detroit that are amazing; every bit as awe inspiring at what they do as the Funk Bros. I don't know any of these folks personally, and didn't know anything about , for instance , the Cass Corridor arts scene of the past few decades until I got on the internet, but if you get the time , do yourself a favor and check out the websites of some of these people (for instance , our webmaster Lowell , Stephen Goodfellow and there are many others- start with Lowell's sites under "Authors" and take it from there). At times, it's still a beautiful world out there.

I confess...

I'm Maury. I orchestrated the whole shebang.
I figured it was time to stir the sh_t, rile the webmaster and watch the love pour down. Hard part was working the Fund Drive angle. I meditated for a couple minutes: Marshall answered the call with that Big ol' heart-a-gold-a-his.

Every site needs a Maury. . . to re-focus the lens.

xoxo,

Yoda Maury, yoda man!
