MOST...THE TEMPTATIONS...THE PLATTERS (WHICH ONE'S???)...THE DRIFTERS...EVEN THE SUPREMES!!!...THE LEAST...YOU GOTTA GIVE THE FOUR TOPS CREDIT FOR STAYING TOGETHER FOR ALL THOSE YEARS!!!...STUBASS

MANY TIMES...GROUPS CHANGE PERSONNEL DUE TO THEIR OWN SUCCESS!!!...A LEAD SINGER CAN BECOME BIGGER (REAL OR IMAGINED) THAN THE REST OF THE GROUP (DIANA...DAVID R...BEN E KING...PHILLIPE WYNN...ETC)!!!...I THINK THAT LEVI AND GLADYS KNIGHT DESERVE ALL THE CREDIT FOR REMAINING WITH GROUPS THAT...WITHOUT...THEY CERTAINLY COULD HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL GOING SOLO...AND THE FATE OF THEIR GROUPS WOULD HAVE LIKELY BEEN IN DOUBT WITHOUT THEM!!!...STU

The Four Tops and The Dells get the nod for being instutions.
It's strange but I really got into the Miracles and enjoyed them much more when Smokey departed and Billy Griffin and eventually Billy's brother Donald came aboard.
That era of the Miracles (1973-78) produced some great songs. Billy and Pete Moore wrote some profound stuff. "City Of Angels" was a classic!

Friends of Distinction. While the two guys (Harry Elston & Floyd Butler) stayed in the group the longest, there were different women on almost every album. What was happening with this group in the 70s? Or maybe that was intentional--to feature new female singers every other album.

floyd butler of friends of distinction died

Yeah, Fayette. I think Floyd Butler died in the early 1990s, right? That would be one major reason for a personell change, huh?
By RD (63.188.33.2) on Sunday, June 22, 2003 - 05:43 am: |
The Drifters had the most personnel changes of any male group by far; the entire group changed once. As for female groups the Bobbettes had the least changes--none; the five had been together since teenagers; one member died but the other four are still hangin' in.
