Today was one of those history making days that
live with you forever more. I had the pleasure
and honor of sitting in the living room of Mr.
Tony Drake today, who most of you at Soulful
Detroit know for his classic recordings, "Let's
Play House", "Suddenly" and writer of the
Chi-Lites classic, " Living In The Footsteps Of
Another Man". Now Tony, has released a new Cd
of unissued material, recorded 1972-1983. Four
recognizable tracks, including the Tommy Hunt
classic, " Human", written by Luther Dixon.
"Loving You Is The Next Best Thing To Heaven"
written by Patrick Adams, "Hey World", recorded
by Gwen McCrae, on her 1983 Atlantic release LP,
" On My Way", and of course, you can not afford
to miss, Tony's rendition of the Chi-Lites classic
"Living In The Footsteps Of Another Man". Under
his real name, Samuel Garner, he is also the
songwriter of both, " Hey World", and the classic
"Footsteps". His rendition of, " Human", is
second to none and might I say the same about
his version of, " Living In The Footsteps".
The popular internet radio show, " Soul 24/7.com"
has been playing tracks from this great CD, that
I say is a must for any true lover of real soul
music. This is not the usual CD released by our
great soul ledgends, who seem to be caught up in
a time warp, chasing the wind. This is a collection of great soul history that somehow
almost went unnoticed. What a shame that would have been. You have got to hear this CD for
yourself. Tony will be the guest of the, "Gareth
Donovan Show", Sunday, June 22, at 6pm thur 8pm,
