If I may from the Motown vault:
It's Summer - Temptations

Summer Madness-Kool & The Gang
By Nish (66.119.33.170) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 03:13 pm: |
Kev - you took the idea out of my head. These songs don't have "summer" in it, but these are some that remind me of summer.
"Groovin" - Rascals
"Sitting In The Park" - Billy Stewart
"Got To Be Mellow" - Leon Haywood
"Love Makes The World Go Round" - Deon Jackson
"Good Vibrations" - Beach Boys
"You Beat Me To The Punch" - Mary Wells
"What Love Has Joined Together" - Mary Wells - both songs have a tropical kind of feel
"Cruisin'" - Smokey Robinson
The Way Nature Planned It - Four Tops
"Under The Boardwalk" - The Drifters
"Satisfaction" - Miracles
"To Be Happy Is The Real Thing" - Intruders
These songs may have no logical connection to summer whatever, but they sound soooooo good driving thru the country blasting from the car's stereo headed for a milkshake and a hot dog at my favorite ice cream stand. Ahhhhhhh.
By KevGo (64.115.26.80) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 03:44 pm: |
Hey Nish:
How 'bout this!
Still Waters (Love) - Four Tops
Just My Imagination - Temptations
For The Love Of You - Isley Brothers
Maybe Tomorrow - Jackson 5
For The Love Of Money - O'Jays
THE ENTIRE WAR GREATEST HITS ALBUM!!!

Be Thankful For What You Got - William DeVaughan (featuring Bobby Eli & the MFSB rhythm section!)
And to hitch-hike onto Douglasm's post...

Summer Snow..Blue Magic
Anything by Donna Summer
By Nish (66.119.34.39) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:07 pm: |
GREAT ADDITIONS KEV - how can I forget William DeVaughn? Have to add "More Today Than Yesterday" too.
And also from my British cats, "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin'" by Gerry and the Pacemakers
And also, on the instrumental side Hugh Masekela's "Grazin' In The Grass," and MFSB's "Poinciana." Poinciana is a GEM!
By douglasm (68.113.13.31) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:08 pm: |
Kevin...
....you're more than welcome to hitchhike with me anytime. Just bring your helmet. Thus, if I may hitchhike on your hitchhike...
...just about ANYTHING by Antonio Carlos Jobeim.
Ill be alone nearly every night
While you're away, don't forget to write...
See You September--The Happenings, I think, but there's an older version...
By Nish (66.119.34.39) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:11 pm: |
Douglasm - yeah, the older group is from PITTSBURGH (YAY!). Too bad I forget their name! I think it's the superior version.
By Nish (66.119.34.39) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:12 pm: |
Okay - last time for me - "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells. That's crucial to the summer enjoyment endeavor.
By WaltBaby (152.163.252.68) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:15 pm: |
Summer In The City - Quincy Jones
By douglasm (68.113.13.31) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:18 pm: |
So i'm getting dressed for work humming "See You In September", and Dora walks in the bedroom and immediately starts singing...
"Schools Out"--Alice Cooper
and then sugguested
Theme From "A Summer Place"--Percy Faith
Bear in mind I work in a convenience store in a tourist area near the water, thus our theme is
"Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"--Brian Hyland
By KevGo (64.115.26.80) on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 - 04:29 pm: |
Nish:
The Tempos recorded the original "See You In September" - they were from Pittsburgh.
The Happenings breathed new life into the song by giving it an uptempo arrangement (the Tempos' was a ballad) a'la Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. It worked - the song went to #3 on the pop charts in 1966 and all but eclipsed the original (which is available on the American Grafitti soundtrack).

BankHouseDave....
....didn't the Airplane (or Starship or Jefferson something) go back there too? Dora pointed out to me "Summer Of Love" by the Jefferson something or other.
As an aside, I realise some people don't like these lists, but from my side, they either send me scurrying into the record collection, or to the guitar to see if I can remember some nice little chord change in some nice little song someone mentioned that I hadn't thought of in years.
