I remember a story that in the early 70's Musicians were selling their music to the Adult Movie business to create some extra income. And indeed some of the music in those early 70'video's sounds damn funky. Does anybody know more about this ?

I bought the music to "Devil in Miss Jones". It's a knockout. Moody and dark. Excellent. Would love to find the music to Dixie Ray. Well done score. Also moody and sets the tone to Los Angles, 1940's.

Ahhh, The Devil in Miss Jones, porn at its zenith. exhilirating uninhibited sex, sex, sex. What a wonderful movie and agreed Ravenswood, the soundtrack just kept coming and coming. TDIMJ was Oscar material and would have won one if a porn category existed.

Michael Bloomfield and friends did the music for several porno flicks ; if I remember correctly, primarily for the Mitchell brothers in San Francisco. Some of Bloomfield's music from Andy Warhol's "Bad" was released posthumously. Kind of funky ....lots o' wah-wah's etc...

Years ago Frank Virtue hired me to play on a cheapie porn feature called Misconduct and I even contributed an "original".

In '77 Van Mc Coy hired me to play on a posthemous Mae West flick called Sextete.

Notorious Detroit organ player Bill Heid spent a bit of time in Japan doing soundtracks for porn movies. As Bill would say, it was "cute".

Hi Bobby!
I hope the sound of your guitar suited the set-up and the movie in general to make the customer satisfied (if that's the right term in this case). As far as I can understand a condom-protected guitar sounds like a vocoder to a human voice.

I once "saw" a movie :-) that had one of the most funky sounds I ever heard. It was like Eddie Hazel kinda sound (in my memory). I forgot the name of that movie. It was part of the Penthouse video's series.

Funny thread -- didn't know that about Heid, Steve.

Didn't someone describe that great '70s guitar sound that guys like Dennis Coffey could do as "porn guitar"? Especially the soundtrack stuff DC did.

The Moments did a soundtrack for a porn movie for Stang Records that few know about. Al Goodman produced it. The movie was a porn depiction of the Patty Hearst saga called Patty.

Or so a friend told me(phew)

Has anyone ever seen Dixie Ray-Hollywood Star? It starred John Lesley and Veronica Hart, amongst others of that early 80's era. It's a detective story set in LA in the 40's. The costumes and sets were very authentic and it looked like they pumped some bucks into it. The music is some of the best I've ever heard for that type of motion picture, or any commercial film for that matter. I wonder who did it? It's very brooding and intense. A much higher caliber than one might expect for this type of movie (XXX!).The opening music really sets the mood for a dark, rainy night in LA....then the gun shots! I only wish that soundtrack was available on CD! A classic, for sure!

Beware of a cd supposedly containing vintage porno music! I saw one a couple of years ago, but the use of Ron Jeremy's voice between tracks set off my spider sense, and I got the store staff to throw the cd on. It didn't sound ye olde at all, and as nouveau-funk, it wasn't good either. On a side note, I heard the Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded a porno soundtrack before they became popular. On an unfunky but still pornographic note, a Pink Floyd collectors' guide (I was in the Floyd void for a few years) mentions a Floyd song appearing in a porno movie in the early 70's! Something from before 'Dark Side', but anyone familiar with Floyd's early 70's songs must also be wandering who on Earth thought a Pink Floyd song would fit in a porno flick??

Hello everyone. One of my musician studio buddies told me they saw a porno flick in New York in a theatre on Times Square back in the seventies that had some of my music in it. I never saw it or got paid for it so who knows.

There was an offshoot of Grand Funk called Moms apple pie and the original cover art was "pornographic" as it depicted an old lady holding an apple pie with a slice cut out and in the center is an oozing vagina!!!
Needless to say the cover was baned and it was later replaced with brickface in its place.
Happy to say that I still have a copy of the original.

Yuk! So much for apple pie anytime soon.
