The photo of Weldon outside the Uptown! Wonderful. And to the left of him, tomorrows stars. All they need is grooming by the professionals and they are in the right place, certainly. Little do they know who they are walking past, and his significance in the wonderful world of soul music.
Great photo's.

Carl:
As we said in Detroit, all we gotta do is reach out to these kids, the difference we would make could be tremendous.
I'm seriously considering doing an "artist in residence"-type thing with schools here in NYC and maybe my hometown to help educate kids on the rich history of music. I'll keep you & the others posted on what develops.

Speaking of kids:
Back when Sideshow was burning up the airwaves,
I was at Sigma as usual working on a project and Harry Chipetz came into the control room and said that there was a group of third and fourth graders from one of the schools in North Philly who won a class trip of a visit to Sigma Sound Studios and he asked me if they could come in for a minute to have a look see.
Not only did I invite them in but I asked them if they knew Sideshow and they all said yes.
So I had Carl Peruolo set up a mike and we had the children all sing Sideshow acappella, ad libs and all and it was the sweetest thing you could have ever witnessed.
Now if I could only find that tape!!!!

Exactly Kev and Bobby! If you lead, some will follow and enrich our lives with their youthfulness and ambitions. If it is music, and done correctly, I see many stars twinkling right now, but need that adult encouragement to make the next step. For some it comes naturally, others need a helping hand. When those kids went into the Sigma control room and saw what went on, who, out of the kids were heavily influenced by these professionals and then dreamed of making the airwaves sound sweeter themselves? I think the answers lie in grooming the artists from a young age to appreciate the classics, vocal harmonies of years gone by and the different musical styles that we all love and respect. Only last night on MTV Base, I watched Dennis Edwards sing, followed by a track that used a Salsoul sample. Quite clearly music is evolving, but I feel your plans Kev, are a good idea, and those kids are part of it. I know you will interface will talented kids and who knows, maybe find some budding performers.
I still think our own forum member Mr Magic, has a special appeal. Although I have not heard (him) you sing yet!!! So, get practising Mr Magic. Your idol is one of the greatest and a yardstick for many a generation to come. Then, it is up to the Apollo in Harlem to perform, and then, get the Uptown refurbished in Philly and perform there....who knows, little acorns...!
