Gregory Peck R.I.P.

We grew up watching guys like Gregory on TV in the fifties and sixties.

I always love to watch "To kill a mockingbird".

I was just watching something about Peck the other day and thinking how nice that he was still with us. I grew up watching the guy.

I first noticed David Brinkley about 1950, when I was about 9 years old. He was a young (30) news analist on NBC. I took a liking to him at once. He appealed to me, with his wry manner. I have never stopped enjoying him.

Another one that I took to instantly, at about that same time, when he was virtually unknown, was Johnny Carson.

Gregory Peck made a really big impression on me as Tom Rath in "The Man In The Gray Flannel Suit." That scene with Frederic March (as Ralph Hopkins) where they have a drink and try to talk about their feelings in the corporate suite was a masterpiece. The scenes with Peck and Henry Daniell (as Mr. Hopkins assistant,) who played the petty staffer who mistreated Peck, were also very impressive.

Atticus Finch gave us the man we always wanted to be, and "Roman Holiday" still makes me dream that if I buy a Vespa, Audrey Hepburn may jump on behind me.
