Hey Soulsister,
have been checking out Mr Scotts material on various sites etc and listening to a lot of his material where I can and must say what a mighty fine artist Mr Scott is(andthensome).
He also has quite a life and met some truly talented and some of my personal best vocalists along the way.
Will be checking out for more material and just like to say thanks to you Soulsister and for Bobby Eli who mentioned Mr Scotts work in a previous thread.
Please send my very best to Mr Scott if you would be so kind Soulsister,
and your one of the best, Sister.
Mel.
(Bobby,
you know how highly I rate you Sir,many thanks anyway for also enlightening me to The other Little Jimmy Scott)

Kev-Go: Not by us tho' we are planning one, other people have set a few up, there's lots of info. on the internet just look under Little Jimmy Scott, Jimmy Scott, & Legendary Jimmy Scott, and you will find tons of threads! Also different festivals or appearences or google as well.
Melandthensome: Thanks for the kind words, I'll pass them along to Jimmy. For more info. there is 3 documentries out on him, last year's role in the movie Chelsea Walls, his role in the Harold Arlen movie Stormy Weather, the final Twin Peaks episode, other T.V. appearences, the book, and presently underway a movie about his life and a documentry about jazz greats, a chapter in Chip Deffea's book & interveiw by Deffea on NPR hosted by Nancy Wilson thats pretty good, I'm sure you can find most of this stuff if not all.
Mel, did you check out the CDs I mentioned awhile back(?), if so. I'd like to hear your favorites(smile).
Jimmy says hello and sends his best to everyone.

Soulsister,
I have been listening to a Verve Compilation
with 17 tracks on it.
It is an aquired taste of music but it is getting to me.
A few of my best at the moment are
"wheel of fortune"
"everybody's somebody's fool"
"they say,you cry"
I am still slowly coming around to the music of Mr Scott
and without a doubt he has an exceptional voice.

Mel: Verve re-issued the Decca/Coral recordings including the Lionel Hampton tracks on GRP Records-669 in 1999, I just got a box from the company yesterday for personal use, in fact from all the record companies except Savoy! Your right it is an aquired taste esp. back then, like Joel Dorn (whom many call too hip for the room) said, not everyone is that deep, not everyone can dig! As Brother Ray said, it gets to places where people don't want to go, scary places, and it can sneak up and grab you and once it gets you, you can't let go, Jimmy has the key to do that to open up those doors! Then you become addicted to him and his voice. Many folks can attest to that (chuckle). Especially those that go to see his live shows.
Mel; We will be at Ronnie Scott's in London for two weeks in January 2004. S.S.

Soul Sister:
I love the album Jimmy did for Atlantic in 1969 as well as his current material. I remember "The Masquerade Is Over" from when my parents had the record (yet I feel I shouldn't listen to the Savoy material because of what that @#@#((! Lubinsky did to poor Jimmy!). Whenever I listen to Nancy Wilson (especially her later years) I can't help but hear a touch of Jimmy in her voice.
Marvin Gaye did a version of "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" that was produced & arranged by Bobby Scott and was later released on the CD called Vulnerable. Have you or Jimmy heard it?

Kev-Go;
Yes, we've had that CD from early on, its my favorite Marvin CD. When Marvin was in Belgium hiding out the only record he had with him that he listened to day & night was Jimmy's album "Falling In Love Is Wonderful", where that song came from, recorded in 1962.

I think Brother Ray and yourself hit the nail on the head Soulsister,
some of the sounds I have listened to are really emotional to say the least and Mr Scott sure seems to hit that emotion within.
Will keep on digging his stuff out,
thanks for the tracks above.
I would love to get over to Ronnie Scotts.
Catch you later Soulsister.
