My curiosity is getting the best of me.
Can y'all tell the forum how and when you first discovered Soulful Detroit??
In my case it was during the Thankgiving holiday in 2001 and I was in NYC at Vonnie's place and I was on Google looking for "Soul" and Black music sites and I found Soulwalking and I went on to the alphabetical links section and I stumbled upon Soul Detroit and I was hooked ever since and it gave me the opportunity of opening up a whole new world of wonderful friends from around the globe!!

Soulman Bobby;
It was your girl Vonnie & You who told me about it on the phone one night when asking if I had any Detroit Artist's photos in my collection from back in the day. I told you I had Jackie Wilson and Deon Jackson among my personal snapshots I took in the 60s. You two told me I should check the Soulful Detroit site out, so I did and its been all good, met up with some old friends and learned alot from some of the most talented people in the field of music such as yourself, had some great laughs too compliments of you and STUBASS !!! Everyone on S.D. is beautiful and very smart when it comes to the soundtrack of our lives!!! Thank You Bobby & Vonnie for pullin'my coat baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got there only a couple of months ago through some friends who used to hang out on the Soul Patrol forum (from the Soul Patrol website).
Since they changed the formula of the SP forum, I have been wandering on the net until I found this forum and this fantastic website... needless to say it now makes for my opening page when I plug ibn the PC!!!

I was put on to this site though the Funk Bros link.I had wandered onto the page a few times, but never checked out the forum. After the Funk Bros show in T.O. and a reminder by Barry Tate and Wonder B(old SP friends),I have been a regular visitor.Even though my focus is on the later Funk, the population of players and great people keeps me coming back!I see alot of the same sore spots that I have on other forums, but the excellent job of moderating keeps the BS to a minimum here.My heart is in NYC,but it seems my soul is visiting Deee-troit more and more often. Thanks for the good company.

Last fall (I think), a friend in Detroit had just come from the Funks' live show and festivites surrounding the SITSOM screening there. He said several attendees and musicians that day told him of this forum. Then he told me about it.
What a joy it is to read everyone's posts every day.

I found SD by chance when searching for a 45 title. Just prior to that I e-mailed Frances Nero (I'm her 2nd biggest fan). Frances mentioned she had met a Scottish guy by the name of David Meikle while he was on a visit to Detroit and had sung for him (I'm still jealous to this day).
I had thought of setting up a 'Homage to Detroit' soul website but surrendered when I found the wonderful SD! You could have knocked me down with a feather when I noticed who had set up the website. I guess David and Lowell are overdue thanks - so many, many thanks guys!!!
And, if that were not enough, just have a look at the roster of artists/musicians/writers/producers/arrangers etc. etc. who contribute to the site. We are not worthy ... we are not worthy ...

I was trying to find some background information about Motown in one of my discussions about the record company (I like to know what I am talking about) and a link to Soulful Detroit.com came up. Even with the occasional bumps (some nastiness at times) it remains one of the most informative and special places on the web. Where else can you meet the quality of musicians, performers, and tech people that exists here. I feel that I have been blessed by being a part of this forum.

I received a phone call from producer Mike Theodore. He told me of this new web-site that showed all the recording studios, or at least their one time locations, in Detroit. He told me Tera Shirma was in the group. I checked it out and noticed there were a couple of things in the text that were not quite accurate and e-mailed David Miekle to give him the corrections. This led to a very nice e-mail correspondence that turned into the Tera Shirma webisode.

I found this site through the soulwalkingUK site and when I saw some of the greats on here and the knowledge I became hooked its like a drug and of course I became a STUBASS angel!! Who knows I may become the wife of Bobby Eli!!! Hey Bobby are you married? Just joking I have no intentions of getting married anytime soon Im 41 and Im learning how to walk again and Im walking now after 4 years of only being able to walk to the bedroom and the kitchen....I can even dance now but it will take another 6 months of full recovery....... I think what impressed me the most about the forum other than the knowledge is the ability to chat with the greats (Coffey , Eli the terrible terrana twins and Weldon McDougal and others) and to see the BRITS!!! I never thought that I would get the answers to some of the questions I had in my mind for years I thought I was the only person on this earth who read those chart books and got excited by the lives of the musicians and singers and the colors of record labels!!! I know that sounds crazy but its true....

Hi all!!
Daren here with how I found this website. I had been taking a computer class a Cabrini College and our teacher gave us an internet assignmet as our class thesis. I decided to write about the differences in the music business and production techniques from the 60's and today!!
I remembered wandering around Hitsville as a teen so of course, the Snakepit was my primary example of the "60's " hitmaking style!! I found Mike Mcleans web site and from there I heard about Soulful Detroit.com.
Of course meeting Bobby, Vonnie and Paulie3shoes was an added bonus!! (Well maybe not Paulie, dat guy is craazy!! )
Now I have met so many new musical giants and great people here that I am gonna hang out for a while!!

Hope I didn't double post (stereo) here...
to make a long story longer.....
My interest in soul music was rekindled when one of the SITSOM book"s CD's showed up in a display made up of glued together jewel cases at the shoe store I was working at 10 or 12 years ago. That CD resparked my interest in the music I grew up with. Note that my District Manager was not pleased when I destroyed the display to get to the CD.
Over the intervening years, I have tried to expand my knoledge of soul from central Washington, with limited sucuess, until I got here through the SITSOM movie's web site, and discovered the wealth of knowledge and information available from a wealth of knowlegable and informative people that participate. If I could, I'd send all of you a box of apples as a token of my appreciation.

Actually, I happen to find this site by pure coincidental chance....
A long-time former Detroiter friend of mine who fled the "doldrums" of Michigan's four seasons (as he put it) in the late '70s, only to have permanently set up residence in Miami, Florida ever since, well... he had turned me on to the RUINS OF DETROIT website, and it was there, by pure chance I then inadvertantly opened the RUINS menu bar at the top of the 'tray', and that's where I first found it-- SOULFULDETROIT.COM, and, when I first opened it up, I couldn't believe this was really there and I just thought to myself, this can't be--
WOW....
That was in sometime in early November, 2002... and I've been 'stuck' like glue right here, everyday on this 'soulfuldetroit' site ever since!

Hey, Douglasm. I remember that window display with the glued together CDs at a shoe store in a mall 10 or 12 years ago. I asked the store if I could have the SITSOM disc from the display (hehe)! I didn't think they'd miss it, but they said no.
Months later, I was able to just buy the CD version of the SITSOM book to replace my cassette edition. Sometimes patience is a virtue.

Haven't been here too long, but I believe this site was listed as link on another soul music website, and the name (Soulful Detroit) caught my attention for 3 reasons:
-I love soul music
-I used to live in Detroit
-I'm a huge Motown fan, which, of course, is in "soulful" Detroit!

Hey Eli. I think I found this website hookup whilst looking for all things Tempts. I can't find this site when looking for it now on the below link - but I could have sworn - I found Soulful Detroit on it initially.
http://members.tripod.com/~Trebor_4/index.html
And for all I know - the owner of the site is amongst us and known by some here.
Go to the bottom of the site page and click on pages 2-5. On them - there'll be some wonderful pics of our favorite Motown artists, and on page3, there is a wonderful pic of Marvin & Tammi. I do declare - but don't they look good y'all?
Again - pardon me if I am all late as usual with it.
Needless to express any more than my words and actions have already done to date, I am more than pleased to have found Soulful Detroit.Com.
One day - I'll have to tell the story about when I lived in Detroit for part of the summer of 1972 - whilst visitng and living at the homes of three different female cousins (All sisters).
Peace & Blessings.
