Hey All..

On my recent trip to New York, I bought two of these, Vols. 1-3, and 4-6. They are UK imports, CD versions of the compilation LP's that were released in the mid-60's-70's.

They're great collections, big hits intermingled with some rarer sides of the Hitsville days, but to me,some of the cuts have audible vinyl pops and clicks. Is it just my ears playing tricks on me, or are these just straight LP to CD transfers?

Thanks,

MichaelOH

Michael:
Good question. I own a Tamla Motown boxed set (three CDs, brown packaging) I bought at my store months ago. The songs on this box sound like they came from sources used for albums because the bulk of the music was in stereo yet a few tunes such as Edwin Starr's "Double-O-Soul" and Brenda Holloway's "Look What You Have Done" were in "re-channeled stereo"! Have you ever heard "re-channeled stereo" on a CD? It isn't pretty.

I believe the company that did the "Chartbusters" box and the Tamla-Motown was Spectrum, the reissue arm of Universal Music Group in the UK. I would definitely write them a letter about this matter.

Good luck,
