I wasn't familiar with Bettye Lavette (where have I been?) And, I know Motorcity recordings frequently get dissed. But, I took a chance and got her "Best Of". It knocked me off my feet. "Good Luck" is a standout. She rips it up with "Jimmy Mack" and she makes your hair stand on end with "Let Me Down Easy". She does great justice to Martha and the Vandellas "I'm Ready For Love" as The Marvelettes " Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead". I think this is a killer CD! I wonder who her backup singers were.....they were awesome! I'm so glad I took a chance and got this great CD. Others may think otherwise, but, I think Ian Levine did her justice on this one. I think I've read where her experiece with him was not good.....money was the issue. That's sad. This IS a GOOD CD. I got mine at amazon.com, if anyone is interested.

Personallly, I MUCH prefer Bettye's original cut of Let Me Down Easy - the electronic version just doesn't do it for me. But - the lady can sure sing, even when she's duetting with a drum machine ;o)

Bettye's Motorcity cd is very good. I'm not a fan of artists remaking their own hits so I avoid LET ME DOWN EASY. But I love the songs SURRENDER, TIME WON'T CHANGE THIS OVE, and HAVE A HEART.
For NY fans, Bettye will be appearing at Joe's Pub on 8/1.
