DMEIKLE - I know a Greg Dokes (keyboard). I wonder if it's the same Gregory Dokes on the Midwest label.

Greg Dokes plays around Detroit and specifically with Gwen Fox in a group called Back To Back appearing at Floods on Sunday nights. If they are not the same person, I would take a chance at betting they are related. Greg is an excellent keyboardist.

Horse - Yes, he is great on the keyboard. He is currently with Dennis Edwards. I'll check it out to see if it is him, or someone in his family.

Thanks for the feedback.
I should scan the other side of the Banner 45 as it credits a few people, Mike Stokes for one. There was a recording by Silver Shadow on De-To, but there doesn't appear to be any connection with this Banner 45.
Stubass, many thanks for the great info! I see there's an address on the label; Who lived there - or was it a studio? Is that Ivy Joe Hunter, of Motown, etc? There was a label called Probe too, I know of just one 45 by a group called North By Northwest, released c. 1975. Who was in this group - you? And do you have any idea who Empulse were?
Sis - I knew you'd have your finger on the button! Any details would be greatly appreciated.
It seems to me that the New Detroit label had a connection to GM.
Thanks again,
Graham

Stubass
Does a label called Red Line mean anything to you? It seems to be connected to Probe; I know of just one 45 released around 977 by a group called Citation.
Cheers,
Graham

Great stuff.

Sis,

I'm guessing that Greg Dokes would have been pretty young (teens) during those seventies recordings. Do you think that could be a relative with the same name? I'm glad to hear he is working with Dennis.

Horse - Greg was in his teens in the 70's. He went to school with Wendal. I've mentioned the label to Wendal and he is going to ask Greg if he knows a Gregory Dokes.

Sis,

That's cool. I'll be looking forward to the update. Do you know if Greg is still playing the Flood dates between gigs with Dennis? The last time I saw him was a few years ago at the Smooth Jazz On The River concert in Trenton. I was with Orthea and he was getting setup for his set. By the way, please ask Wendal if knows guitarist Kevin Carter who is saxophonist James Carters brother. We're all about the same age. Kevin is an absolute joy to play with. Groove city.

Horse - Wendal says he knows Kevin Carter. He hasn't seen him in a couple years. Mr. Wendal also said he has heard of the group "Empulse", they may be a jazz group.

Greg stays on the road with Dennis, but when he is in town, he sings with Gwen (his wife).

Hi Stubass, and thanks again for the info.
Was Harry Gibson the owner of Probe and providing the funding for the sessions?
As far as I know Mike Stokes wasn't invloved in the Probe recordings - his name is on the Banner 45, which is scanned above.
Horse and Sis - Gregory Dokes co-wrote the flip of the Midwest 45, a song titled - Don't Let This World Turn You Cold.
Thanks again,
Graham

The De-To and Banner 45s have "Silver Shadow" connections - but I'm not sure that they're directly related.
Does anyone know any of the writers on the De-To 45?
Thanks,
Graham
