And a fine release it is, featuring Walden's group playing the music of Tad Damerson, one of America's cultural giants.
Known as the Bebop poet, Dameron brought a lush, swinging and very soulful timbre to jazz.
Walden's group features stellar Detroit musicians: pianist Kenn Cox, arranger/saxophonist Cassius Richmond, bassist Rodney Whitaker, drummer Bert Myrick, Saxophonist Ernie Rodgers (former Motown studio musician), trombonist Vincent Chandler, trumpetists Derrick Gardner and Rayse Biggs, and Walden, who pulled the music and musicians together to bring this wonderful project to fruition. A new book is in the process of being written about Tad Dameron, the author did a phone interview with Jimmy (Scott) on friday afternoon, quite a long interveiw, should be interesting reading.

Jim, I have heard this CD quite a bit on WEMU and on Ed Love's show. I really dig it. I thought Dwight was on it too? I am almost done with the Gigi Gryce book. He played with Dameron early in his career, along with Clifford Brown and others.
I would like to read the book Soul Sister mentioned too! -RJ

Oops it is Dwight on the CD, not Derrick...apologies...I was at the concert too, should have remembered.

SoulSister, there is one bio of Tad currently available, can you tell me who is writing the one you're talking about?
