Probably the single by the Pets "I Say Yeah" that George Clinton produced.

I don't know if Eddie Hazel did or didn't play on that record, but I remember reading that Fuzzy Haskins played guitar on it and that one of the Pets was Calvin Simon's sister. I've never heard the record though.

Steve, The Pets' single is on a couple of those Carnival Records compilations CDs. It's nothing to get excited about.

Scratcher;
thanks for the heads up - I may have bought it just out of curiosity - are the compilations worthwhile ( at a decent price of course ) ?

Two companies put out the compilations: Collectables and Kent Records (UK). Kents are better for the info; they also have more tracks--24 to Collectables 18. Get all of the Kent CDs and you have the Story of Carnival Records including short bios of the artists.

However, the Collectables CDs are unique in that the two I have each feature one group doing half the 18 tracks. On one the group is Lee Williams & the Cymbals and the other the Pretenders. Both great underrated groups. I had never heard of the Pretenders until the CD. One of the members went on to write songs for Philly International.

Both the Collectables and Kent CDs are uneven because Joe acquired a lot of tracks via licensing. So unlike a mid-sixties Motown compilation the rhythm section and singing styles changes quite a bit.

The only bummer: Lee Williams & the Cymbals' "Til You Come Back To Me" can't be found on either the Kent or Collectables compilations. I honestly believe the master was either lost or destroyed.

Steve, I forgot to mention that the Kent CD booklets have plenty of pictures and label scans.

Scratcher; thanks for the info - I used to get catalogues from Collectables occasionally , but its been awhile - I'll have to check into these.
