I have so much respect for these guys its hard for me to say I DONT like anything..I wasnt that crazy about the Soul Spin album but they sing so well I forgot about it..

As "Ask The Lonely" has been nomimated so many times above, I thought I would share this with you....
doing the rounds in the UK at present is yet another CD-R of unissued Motown 60's cuts. One of the cuts on this CD is "Ask The Lonely" by Billy Ekstine. Not a bad version at all but on hearing of it for the 1st time, one Detroit music fan just said..."Why would anyone think of doing a cover of a song Levi has already cut, surely it's a pointless task, no ones gonna better the original". I have to say in most every case, I have to agree.
Who else, apart from say David Ruffin and Marvin Junior (perhaps Eddie Levert, Teddy P) is it likely a similar attitude would be adopted for ??
By Margie (69.3.116.61) on Friday, June 13, 2003 - 03:12 am: |
I kinda think Levi would be proud that Mr. B would record a cover of "Ask the Lonely". Before the Tops signed with Motown, they toured with Billy Ekstine, and I think he is one of the singers who most influenced Levi.
Maybe Deborah could shed some light on this.

Soul Sister,
I'm pleased my mentioning "Just Can't Walk Away"
jogged your memory - I picked it for exactly that
reason, to draw people's attention to one of their
gemns that's too little known.

I Just Can't Walk Away is one of the Tops' great "unknown" songs.
Others include Back Where I Belong, Easier Said Than Done, I'll Never Leave Again, Who's Right, Who's Wrong?, and Whatever It Is.
Anyone familiar with these?
