Saxophonist Larry Smith, who suffered multiple strokes a few months ago, will be on the receiving end of a benefit at Bert's Marketplace, 2727 Gratiot in Eastern market, on Sunday, June 16 at 7:00 pm. Cover charge is $10. A buffet will be provided.
Detroit musicians are expected to turn out in force for the event. Teddy Harris, Marcus Belgrave, James Carter and saxophonist George Benson are among those who will create soulful sounds that evening.
Larry Smith is a great bebop alto man and was a close associate of the late Sonny Stitt.
He's recovering and is 'on the mend'.
