Debut CD for RJ's Rhythm Rockers!
On Detroit's No Cover label
CD release party June 20 at the Music Menu Showcase Bar & Grill
511 Monroe, Detroit (313.964.MENU)
wsg Stanley Mitchell

RJ's Rhythm Rockers have made their name on the blues scene as the back-up band for nationally touring artists like Alberta Adams, Joe Weaver, the Motor City R&B Pioneers and Geno Parks. The Rhythm Rockers have also been busy working as a quartet or a quintet, featuring vocals by the guys in the band like tenor sax honker Joe Piccolo, boogie woogie man Shawn McDonald or stand-up bassist Ben Luttermoser. On guitar is the veteran Paul Carey (Sun Messengers, Pinetop Perkins, Earl King etc). The WC Handy award nominated drummer RJ Spangler is best known for his many years with blues master Johnnie Bassett as well as his 17 years as a Sun Messenger, is at the helm of the Rhythm Rockers. Appearing on over 40 recordings in the last 20 plus years, this is the first under his own name.

The Rhythm Rockers debut CD was recorded live at Detroit's Music Menu, where RJ Spangler has had a strong presence for close to a decade. The CD features lots of swinging' jump type numbers that are the band's hallmark, as well as some funky blues and some more some rocking material. Many of the tunes are original's penned by saxist Piccolo while other tunes are associated with greats like Louis Jordan and Big Joe Turner.

Joining the Rhythm Rockers on this special night will be guest vocalist Stanley Mitchell of the Motorcity R&B Pioneers. The Rhythm Rockers backed Stanley on the Pioneers CD on the Blue Suit label. Stanley is a great singer from Detroit's early pre-Motown soul era. Real old-school Detroit R&B!

Detroit's No Cover label has released more local Detroit blues than any other label -- from Johnnie Bassett's first CD to artists like Motorcity Josh, Jim McCarty and Willie D. Warren. www.nocover.net

Thanks for your very kind words fellas! My DSL was down for a few days (so-called high speed internet!)....so I just got back on. It would mean so much to me to see any of my Soulful Detroit friends at our CD release party. We will play soul and blues by the way. Stanley Nitchell will deliver the goods as usual!
