Does anyone remember a song with the title "I'm Lonely", played on Detroit stations in early '60s? It was summer, probably 1962. The song was by a new young male singer, perhaps a one-hit wonder. The refrain goes: "Someone tell her, tell her for me please/Just how much she means to me./ I'm lonely, so lonely, I'm lonely, don' wanna be lonely-ee."

I'm having a brief senior moment, but wasn't it one of the " Bobby " singers?
Not Bobby Vee but...but...oh...Maybe Bobby Vinton?

Mr. Lonely was by Bobby Vinton, but those lyrics
don't sound like it.

"I'm Lonely" was recorded by Bobby Jameson and a big local hit in the summer of '64.

Yes, David C! The name "Bobby" came to mind, but I didn't trust it. Thanks so much-- now I can sleep nights! Did he have any more hits? Did "I'm Lonely" stay local? Can you tell me anything more about the song/singer? Do you know who wrote the song?

Uh-oh! R&B, are you saying I may be thinking of a hit by Bobby Byrd? Or did B Byrd do a cover of the song?

Blackrose.. when I first saw your post the immediate song that came to my mind was I AM LONELY by the Silhouettes, it was the flip side of GET A JOB in 1958. Although the title says I AM LONELY, it is not sung as that, they definitely say, I'M LONELY.

R&B, and Karyl--thank you both for your input. Did either of the songs you are thinking of have this refrain? "Someone tell her, tell her for me please,/ Just how much she means to me./ I'm lonely, so lonely, I'm lonely, don' wanna be lonely-ee."

P.S. Karyl-- I'm sure I had a 45 of "Get a Job"!
