Does anyone out there know which "Vandellas" Martha used on the Motorcity Recordings? Also, which Andantes recorded for Motorcity?

Martha did not use any Vandellas for those record-ings, according to what she told me.

Check Martha Reeves and the Vandellas on http://rateyourmusic.com/ and click on the two singles "Angel In Disguise" and "Step Into My Shoes" and you can see the covers. Martha may be right, but Rosalind Ashford and Martha's sister Delphine are featured on both covers.

Rosalind and Annette are pictured on Step In My
Shoes. Again, Martha told me they did not sing
on the recordings. I have not seen the cover
for Angel In Disguise. I'll have a look.

I was not able to find the photo for Angel In
Disguise on that site, however, I believe it
would be Annette, not Delphine, pictured.

Just got it to come up! It took awhile. That is
Rosalind and Annette pictured on Angel In Disguise.

Sorry, I thought that was Delphine!

I have a picture of a Motorcity recording session at United Sound Studios under producer Ian Levine. In the picture is Benny Reeves, Martha, Rosalind and Annette. I say this as an observation but make no suggestions as to who was singing. Interestingly, it is generally accepted that it was Ian who was adamant that the Vandellas should sing and perform with Rosalind and Annette and he made attempts to legalise it for the UK. Up that point in time, Martha had been performing "solo" with "group" back-ups - and on at least one of those occasions, one of those back-ups was a man.....that looked kind of odd even though the overall performance was wonderful.

The infamous video of the Motorcity recordings show the Andantes doing Step into My Shoes with Pat Lewis doing the lead vocal. (Pat was doing a fine job too).

I have Ian's email address - I could ask him!

I don't know about the pictures taken, I only
know that Martha gave me a copy of Step Into My
Shoes and told me she didn't like the pictures
of Annette & Rosalind and that even though they
weren't singing on it she had them release it
as Martha Reeves & the Vandellas.
I believe her brother Benny recorded something
with Ian Levine.

What infamous video of the Motorcity recordings are we talking about? Is that something that was made available? Hmmm. Sounds rather interesting.
