I've been into Ain't that Perculiar by Marvin Gaye
I can't tell you the notes but as James is Playing
I here him and Earl hit the same notes as James
finishes a series of notes Earl and him strike
the same notes let me tell you it's a thing of
beauty the funk are downright jamming on that session. I'm getting ready to head home and I
will be jamming with James and the Funk.

brown8644,
Thing of beauty is right. The Funk Brothers: Role Players with big ears, ego's checked at the door and givin' it up for the SUM of the Parts. Specially on this track, they're really showing a short, choppy attitude mixing self-control individually, but overall the track is tight and swaying at the same time.
Unisons, answerbacks, classic snakepit footstomps, with Marvin on a great lead. The background vocals doing double duty as answerback and as a 4th gtr part. What should be a snare track on the 2 and 4 is some multi-clap'N'crack with the traditional kit panned opposite. I just heard the understated horns at the tails of the Choruses.
Marvin's lyrics and melody and phrasing...Shit.
This track is BAD.

I love to listen to the stereo version on Marvin's original Greatest Hits album, you can also hear the guitar clanging as clear as a bell.
A classic of the first order!
