Pete,
Since you are coming on to the forum I thought I should set up an appropriate thread. Once again, welcome. I miss you Pete.

Hey Pete,
You might mention the forum to Jerry Corbetta. He was being discussed here a short while back.I meant to e-mail him but somehow got side-tracked.

Hi Pete, great to have you drop in.

Now that you've got your own personal thread
you'll have to visit more often to see what's waitin' for you.

Have you seen the new Motown Motown website yet?

You and the rest of the guys will be pleased to see that the opening screens show a list of
a dozen major Motown acts and Rare Earth are there. the forum will probably end up discussing
who should be there (where are the Marvelettes?)but I thought it would please you that they recognise the band's contribution.

The site's at www.motownmuseum.com

Have fun in Idaho.

This was from Pete Rivera on the Rare Earth post:

Hey Ralph: I just stopped by the site and got your note about not writting lately. I'm not sure that this is the right place to do it, but here goes. I've been reading all the stuff that Ray has been writing and it is very cool to hear from him. Ray was quite a guy around Detroit. I knew of some of the sessions he did. I can tell you that back when he was being considered for Rare Earth he came with the highest of recomendations from everyone in the "scene". He didn't dissapoint us. I just loved playing with him. He had a feel for a groove that I don't think I have ever felt with another guitar player since. I really miss that. We were so fortunate to have him. Right now I'm sitting at my laptop in Lewiston Idaho getting ready to go to The NAIA college world series where my son plays baseball. It's draft time in the pros and he's hoping to get called. I just left my other son who plays for the Dodgers and I have been doing shows with "The Classic Rock All Stars and going to games at my daughers College. I haven't been home for 11 weeks. Talk about being on the road.. I promise I'll stay tuned to the Forum and I will be happy to contribute any thing I can. This is a great site and the Forum is fun...

Hey Pete,
Welcome, welcome! Just seeing your name on the forum takes me way back to the Cliche' days...geez is it possible that we're all as old or older than our parents were when we were all hanging out together. I had dinner a few months ago with Al DiNoble and Lee Alan...it's the first time the two of them had seen each other since Lee's wedding many years ago. I talk to your old girlfriend Sally frequently and you're always remembered fondly. Steve Fischer sends his best too. Stay with us here...you'll love it!

Hello Pete!
Here is the picture of the "Two Worlds" Album.
Made in Germany under the Metro Label!
Front- and Backside show the same picture

The song sequence and credits printing are the same.

I just got off the phone with Pete. We had a rather interesting conversation. We're kiciking around the idea of going into the studio and doing an album of Motown songs with Pete singing. Anyone care to comment on this possible project?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Davie Gordon (193.122.21.42) on Thursday, May 29, 2003 - 05:03 pm:

Pete,

If it's any help Metro, the German label that
issued "Two Worlds" is a division of MGM,
owned at that time by Polydor, now part of
Universal who coincidentally now own Motown.

Ralph & Pete,
I think the idea of the two of you even thinking about getting together and going in the studio is
one of the best ideas I've heard in 2003.

I know that there is still a lot of music in the both of you and once you put Pete and Ralph together after all this years I'm sure you'll come up with a Classic production. Pete, always had a great set of hands for the drums and an amazing recording voice that is to this day VERY distinct. I wish you guys all the best not that you'll need my blessing but if I can help in any way just Holla......LOL Pete do you remember the album you did at Motown with the Fat lady on the cover.....?
Glad to see on the forum Pete and the best to you and your family.............Peace

Top of pageBottom of page   By peterivera (64.12.97.7) on Friday, May 30, 2003 - 10:52 am:

Clay: Do I remember the fat lady on the cover of one of our albums???? Do I ever.... It was not one of our greatest moments back then...We had nothing to say about the cover. There were mixed feelings about it. At least from my family there was.It was called "MA" I think it was a lousy cover..

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ralph (209.240.198.62) on Friday, May 30, 2003 - 11:07 am:

Clay,
Thanks for the words of support. Coming from you that means a lot. Would be cool if all of us could get in the studio together. I talked with Fred Saxon last night and ran the concept down to him. He thought it was a great idea. Pete, we need to kick this around some more.

Soulful Detroit has brought about reissues, 2 potential books (Tammi Terrell and Four Tops) and obviously rekindled friendships. A CD would be a natural result.

Tonight I watched "Standing in the Shadows" and I have to say that I had tears in my eyes. I don't think I ever loved anything as much as the memories of being able to walk in the footsteps of so many great players and singers. I remember how much I loved the artists and musicians of Motown. I wanted so much to be a part of them. I am grateful that I can say that I got a chance to do my thing at hitsville. I feel sad that I was not really a part of it all the way I wanted to be. I remeber Stevie when he was 11 years old. I watched him sing into the microphone with Clarence Paul whispering the words in his ear. I remember David Ruffin coming to the club where I worked and got to play drums behind him. I loved David, Stevie, Gladys,Marvin, Smokie, Martha,Mary,Tammi, and all who ever came from the "Sound" Motown meant more to me than anyone will ever know. I hope someday that I will be recognized as someone who contributed in some small way to the miricle of that time...

Pete,
Remember working up Motown songs when we were in The Sunliners. It was always a favorite thing of mine. I remember we first learned Mickies Monkey in NYC at the Peppermint. It's kind of ironic that our individual roads would ultimately lead us to Motown.

Kevin,
I would love to do this album. As of yet Pete and I haven't really discussed it in depth. There are certain problems that would have to be overcome, such as just being able to get together to do it considering the geographical logistics and our individual schedules. Still, where there is a will there is a way and if it is meant to be we will do it. Hey, we already have a commitment from Babbitt. That alone should drive us into the studio.

The GREAT Peter Rivera says he wished he would be a part of Motown history!!! Let me tell you something Peter!! I cant believe Im even talking to you. Rare Earth IMO was one of the first white groups albums that I saw in every black household in the neighborhood. You guys really broke some barriers believe it or not before the Average White Band and others of the like. I know that Sly and the Family Stone were multiracial like the Crests from the fifties but I wonder if you really realize (im sure you do) the impact you had on black families. I remember people not even thinking that a white band could sing or sound like this. That drum solo on Get Ready is incredible and is hailed as one of the greatest drum solos in history!!! Im not kidding one time I was on a board and they were discussing drum solos and that one always came up in the top five!!!! When I saw you with the Classic Rock All Stars I couldnt believe you could still sing. I will admit I was apprehensive and when you came out and started singing the opening lines to Get Ready the crowd got so excited and I heard people saying "He can still sing?" if you could see the joy and happiness that you and Corbetta and Hannibal brought to the crowd I think you would be in high heaven. Do people ever ask you to autograph the Rare Earth Albums? Man talk about being a part of history you just dont know..my hats go off to you and all of the guys in Rare Earth..

For those forum members in Northern California, The Classic Rock All Stars will be appearing at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk this coming Friday. It's a great venue. a huge stage set up right on the beach. Two shows, 6:30 and 8:30 I believe.

Meanwhile Peter and I hope to meet on Thursday in Monterey and try and figure out how we are going to do this album we've been talking about. This isn't going to be easy to figure out, but where there's a will there's a way.
