Anyone who hasnt read in BB wanna guess which Supremes song was most successful per Billboard based on length of time on hot 100 and highest # on hot 100 it reached?I was surprised but I still NEVER tire of hearing this record.

Hi Guys...After I read Deke Richards 'Birth of a Song' regarding 'LOVE CHILD' it has re-emerged as my favorite Supreme song.

Now listening more carefully to it. I had both versions, It seems that Polygram/Motown licensed the 'B' version to K-Tel/Rhino type companies.

However the 'A' version is full and rich in strings and things. Reconsider listening to that one again.

Thought I read somewhere it's "Up The Ladder To The Roof", but with my luck, it's probably "The Happening".

Sorry to disturb but heres some numbers from the Billboard Hot 100 chart

Baby Love total weeks on chart: 13. 4 weeks at number one.
Where Did Our Love Go total weeks on chart: 14. 2 weeks at number one.
Come See About Me total weeks on chart: 14. 2 weeks at number one.
Someday Well Be Together total weeks on chart: 16. 1 week at number one.
Love Child total weeks on chart: 16. 2 weeks at number one.

After Diana left, no Supremes single reached the number one position!...But Stoned Love and Im Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking stayed on chart for 14 weeks

Per Billboard-using the same citeria-what was the most successful Motown song ever?most successful song written by Berry;;;Smokey;;;,and HDH;;; and Ashford and Simpson;--these could be collaborations.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Gary Rosen (12.234.25.217) on Sunday, May 25, 2003 - 10:19 pm:

I think I once heard that the J5's "I'll Be There" was the biggest selling Motown record ever up to that time. I'm not sure by what criterion (Billboard, Cashbox, sales ??).

Top of pageBottom of page   By Vandelron (24.44.20.172) on Sunday, May 25, 2003 - 10:55 pm:

No-I'll b there was #1 in one of the other categories I mentioned--based on length of stay on chart and highest number reached on Hot 100 and duration there.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Edgar (200.46.12.47) on Sunday, May 25, 2003 - 11:41 pm:

Berry's most succesful... "Love Child", I guess.
Smokey's? Could be "My Girl".
Ashford & Simpson: the mountain that ain't that high.
Holland-Dozier-Holland? Well, it has to be "Where Did Our Love Go?", according to the previous question.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Uptight (24.55.6.144) on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 07:07 am:

I knew the answer to the first question, but uhh... (LOL).

There were twelve number one Supremes hits. I would say "My Girl" (without looking at the books) is Motown's most successful recording.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Vandelron (24.44.20.172) on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 07:28 am:

So far--vg per Aint no Mt;Where Did OUr Love Go was the biggest for the Supremes-not necessarily biggest of HDH overall:is that your final answer?;My Girl incorrect; Love Child incorrect.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Edgar (200.46.134.205) on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 08:06 am:

Something bigger than "My Girl"? I don't know... Maybe "My Guy".
HDH? My second guess: "I Can't Help Myself"...
As for Berry, maybe it's "I Want You Back" or any other Corporation collaboration.
If not, I give up.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Vandelron (24.44.20.172) on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 08:32 am:

Edgar--dont give up--u r right-collaboration-ok-I'll tell u--I'll Be There.
