I'm not suprised at the phenominal spoken word he did at Def Poetry. He brought it to the table. That's all I'll say. Style was straight out of the 60s. Let's be real. He may be one of the reasons (influence) that there is a Def Poetry in the first place. Good job, Smoke. Peace.

Tracks Of My Tears...Baby, Baby Don't Cry...My Girl...Since I Lost My Baby...Quiet Storm...
Pure poetry - no wonder Bob Dylan listened to Smokey.

Hello everyone,

Don't forget "The love I saw in you (was just a mirage)". Smokey was definitely at the top of his game when he wrote this one. One of my favorite Smokey songs, mainly on the lyrical tip. He really has a way with words.

Peace!

Common:
Just like a desert shows a thirsty man
A green oasis when there's only sand
You lured into something I should have dodged
The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage...
Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, 1967.

How about the tune, "More Love"...

Oh yeah, Kev! What a beautiful love song!

Gonna give you more love
And more joy
Than any man could ever des-troy
Oh honey now
My love is so ?(I could never get the exact word)
Gonna take about a hundred lifetimes
To live it down
Wear it down
And tear it down

Very sweet tribute to Claudette indeed!

Peace!

I always thought that was "So SOUND"

It is "so sound"; it rhymes with the next line that ends with "down."

More Love

Let it be soon, don't hesitate
Make it now, don't wait
Open your heart & let my love come in
I want the moment to start when I can fill your heart with...

CHORUS:
More love, more joy
Than age or time could ever destroy
My love will be so sound
It would take about 100 lifetimes
To live it down, wear it down, tear it down

This is no fiction, this is no act
This is real, it's a fact
I'll always belong only to you
Each day I'll be living to make sure I'm giving you...

(chorus)

As we grow older no need to fear
When you need me I'll be here
I'll be beside you every step of the way
A heart that's truthful & keeping you youthful with...

(repeat chorus & fade)

This is why Smokey Robinson is my favorite person ever. Who thinks of stuff like this??

Whatever Makes You Happy
If my sadness brought you gladness, I'd be glad to be sad,
If my feeling bad made you feel good, I would always feel bad,
And I wouldn't think twice about the sacrifice, anything that I'd have to do,
Because whatever makes you happy, makes me happy too.

Smokey is a true poet. More Love is one of my favorites by him. When I hear that song and think about the inspiration of the song (Claudette and the many miscarriages she had), it brings tears to my eyes.

I wish I could write like Smokey, I was so sad and he broke up with Claudette but thats Ok because they are still friends and that is what matters...

I love the stuff Smokey wrote and produced for the Marvelettes. "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", "Don't Mess With Bill", and "My Baby Must be A Magician" all led by Wanda Rogers are classic!

Smokey simply turned the joint out. I happened upon his performance and he certainly had attitude. I agree with all of you about Smokeys skills, Mirage, Sad Times, Choosey Beggar, Save me, Tracks of My Tears , Girl has gone, Swept for You Baby, Come Round Here are all personal favorites. You just gotta love Smokey and I wont even go into my Tempt bag !!!
