i think lyric today is more mature, then in the
sixties. we had monsterous hits in the 60's
but sometimes the lyric sound a little teenage.
can you name some songs that were in the sixties
that sounded a lil immature.

abc.the jacksons

"Papa OoM Mow Mow", "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Do Wah Diddy" Love them all.The innocense is whats so cool.

The thing about the innocuous and innocent nature of those songs is that when I was a teenager (my teenage tenure went from 1992-1998, I guess), I could relate to that more than I could relate to some of the heavier music actually released in my era. The lyrics are fun and great and universal. Beyond time and beyond age. For instance, in the Shirelles' "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," I imagine the protagonist is nothing but an awkward, unsure, 16 year old wide-eyed girl who sincerely wonders... but I'm sure a 40 year old can completely relate. That's why I think a lot of these songs, while young and teenagey, they are often just as heavyhitting.

Any of the dance craze songs are kind of youthful, "Please Mr. Postman," "I've Got A Crush On Teacher," "He's A Fink," "It's My Party," "My Boyfriend's Back," "See You In September."

I Love The Flower Girl was actually titled "The
Rain, The Park, & Other Things" and was not the
Association, but the Cowsills.

Pink Shoe Laces was by Dodie Stevens (cut when
she was 13)

Does anyone remember a song called "The Martian
Hop"? It was by two guys and I remember them
being on Amer. Bandstand and having to read the
lyrics from a sheet of paper they were holding!
How unprofessional! It was a really stupid
song.
Also, what about "Beep Beep"?

My Boy Lollipop--Millie Small
Little Girl--Syndicate Of Sound
Summertime Blues--Eddie Cockrine (I think--I was going to say Blue Cheer, but I didn't want to turn this into an errggh thread)
Summertime--??? Not the Gershwin, the "It's Summertime, Summertime, Sum Sum Summertime..." one.
At The Hop--Danny and the Juniors
and
Most any early Beach Boys/Jan and Dean/Ripchords/Hondells car song.

Nish....
.....I agree with you. There is a certain ernestness to many of them. But on the otherhand, many of them are just plain fun to listen too now, in as much as they bring back memories of 25 cent gas, how much we hated Birmingham Seaholm, dances after the game and Chinese firedrills. Ahhh, the joys of youth.....

I'd rather listen to a whole day of "silly pop songs" from decades past than to put up with 2 minutes of today's -ahem- music....
