Several recordcompanies asked me to look for live footage or documentary. Maybe that some of you know where to get or to find these. No bootlegs....all will be officially released. Your help will be appreciate.

Marcel:
I believe there was footage on Funkadelic from the European TV show The Beat Club taped in the early 1970s. I don't know if that is available but it's worth a start.

Also, if you can speak to Don Cornelius' people you may be lucky to get footage from Soul Train.

Good luck.

Don't forget that 'Upbeat' (Cleveland?) tv show from which the 1970 clip of 'I Got A Thing' comes from! Also, while this question never generates responses, how about regional tv stations in Detroit? The MC5 doc 'A True Testimonial' features all kinds of terrific footage, much of which never got around much amongst bootleg collectors. Given the '5 weren't exactly a monster-selling band, is it not reasonable to assume there are Funkadelic tv appearances and 8mm reels sitting around and gathering dust? Marcel, even if you don't dig the MC5, check out this documentary! /Erik

Thanks Eric,

Funkadelic has some clips out in the early 70's, Cosmic Slop, I got a thing, Up for the down stroke commercial........but you hit the nail Erik. I know for 100% that there is footage still waiting to get discovered. Local tv stations especially in Detroit should check their archives......the only problem is that I'm on the wrong side of the planet and that's why I need you guys to help me finding the stuff that we all need so badly.........

I'm sure that thanks to Kev and all the others....something will come up!

My fingers are crossed again.

I may be wrong, but I believe there was also a clip lip synching "I'll Bet You" - I believe it was black and white.

Mike there are several avenues for licensing rights for classic television performances:
The Midnight Special - contact Perry Ambrogio at Burt Sugarman, Inc. (310)273-5678
"American Bandstand" clips, contact dick clark media archives, (818)841-3003.
"Soul Train" contact Don Cornelius Productions,
9255 Sunset Blvd., Ste. 420, Los Angeles, CA 90069 (Good Luck, they're bad at returning corespondence. Also try NHK TV in Tokyo, Japan because they have the complete series from 1971 to present.)
Clip rights for the other programs are handled by their owners. Many of them are represented by RESEARCH VIDEO,7314 Laurel Canyon Blvd North Hollywood,CA 91605 (818)503-5920.
Good luck

You definitely should contact WGPR TV 62 in Detroit as they televised many live and some lip synced performances of a variety of Soul/R & B acts from 1975 and on. They had a daily dance show called "The Scene" hosted by Nat Morris. The shows were repeated in the mid 90's on cable. The list of artists are too numerous to mention here. Almost everyone that stopped through Detroit appeared on this show.

Hey, now that I think about it some more, weren't P-Funk on the Richard Pryor show in '79 or thereabouts? I read something about this appearance on-line but never saw a copy... wish I could help with regional tv tips...
