Just out of curiosity, how did Jack come to play the tambourine? I don't think I've ever heard a child or youth say, "I want to play the tambourine when I grow up?" Was he just in the percussion unit?

I've read that Norman Whitfield once played the tambourine. In thinking of jazz bands, orchestras, etc., was the tambourine more an element of a Motown band than a regularly used instrument in a jazz band?

But, whatever, Happy Birthday, Jack, you were an elegant addition to the Funk Brothers.

To the man who can shake a mean funky tambourine, a very happy birthday to you, Mr. Ashford.
