Bill Withers is living either in California or the Carolinas (gotta check the liner notes to his latest "greatest hits" CD) enjoying his "retirement" (in other words, royalties from his hits).

Dobie Gray recently made a comeback thanks to Uncle Cracker's cover of "Drift Away" (Dobie guest-stars on the record).

Maxwell is a native New Yorker (born & raised in Brooklyn). He's laying low working on a new album.

Dobie Gray has lived in Nashville for the past 25 years, where he has focused on songwriting, although he has release several self-produced CDs in the last couple years. Most of his recent live performances have been in Europe and Africa.

Bill withers's biggest payday may have been in 98 when he was raking in 50% of the proceeds from the song of the year. BMI gave him and writer Richard Vick an award for the song having been played more than any other (in the US), six million times that year. Blackstreet had sampled his "Grandma's Hands" on "No Diggity"

Dobie Gray has been singing commercial jingles for a while. That's him singing "Mama's got the magic of Clorox" in the Clorox commercials.

Best,

Mark
