Our very own Sue has another great article in today's (May 15, 2003) Detroit News (detnews.com)about Holland/Dozier/Holland's honor at the 51st annual BMI Pop Awards. Berry Gordy, Mary Wilson, Kim Weston, Freda Payne, Brenda Holloway and THE FUNK BROTHERS were there. Thanks Sue!

Thanks, Lee ...

I talked to all three of the guys (HDH) and they all had great things to say about how the Funks sounded. Mary W. looked great in that orange dress:

Great article, Sue.

Berry turning around to go back and talk with the Funks was poignant.

And yes - Mary looked hot in that dress (if only I was a few years older & wiser....)

Again, great job.

Sue:

As always, you have written a wonderful article. It sounds as though it was a fantastic even!

Mary Wilson looks absolutely incredible! Again I am struck by the fact that of all the Motown greats she seems to be the one who actually goes to and supports these industry events, from the Rhythym and Blues Foundation, singing a song for and supporting the cure for breast cancer, to honoring HDH, to taking care of Cholly Atkins in his final couple of years, to working for the Girls Group Stamp commemoration, and so on. On her website she continually posts notices regarding people who have had an effect on her career and life (presently there is a notice about Cholly Atkin's Memorial), even asking for help in locating people. Perhaps this is why she has the good will and largesse of so many people in and out of the industry. There are people who have a great deal more finances and wherewithall than Mary who do much, much less than she does with the resources she has. It is the reason that I will always have a soft spot for her.

Thank you, Sue, for putting up the hyperlink to your article, as I tried to do it myself, but could not seem make the link appear! I am so glad that Berry turned around to talk to THE FUNKS!!
Additionally, for you Detroiters, there are pictures of the FUNK BROTHERS in this week's Michigan Chronicle.
Michael/Cleoharvey, I agree with you 100% about Mary Wilson. She has flown nonstop across the USA supporting Motown, the Supremes and other artists including THE FUNK BROTHERS!

Everyone:

For those of you who want to see pictures from this exciting event, use the address below. There is a great picture of Brenda Holloway, Freda Payne, Kim Weston, and Mary Wilson standing together and posing for the camera. Now there would be a show!!
