For those of you in the Detroit Metro area, we have a sick colleague who is in need of our support and assistance. Her name is Pat Lewis,formerly of Issac Haye's back up voices "Hot Buttered Soul" and of course as a backup & solo performer on the Detroit scene for years.

There will a Benefit show for her at "Bakers Keyboard Lounge" at Livernois and 8 Mile Rd on Monday May 11th 2003. from 7:30pm to 12:30pm per Ms.Carolyn Crawford. Come out and support our colleague on Monday. We're losing them much too fast and in frightening numbers. Let's do what we can to show some love to those that gave us a lot of love thru their music.......Peace

I thought she recorded for Ian Levine in the early 90's?? Wass up? I had never heard her voice until I got a compilation on the Motor City stuff. A nice voice. I like Merry Go Round. Sorry to hear she's ill. I see where amazon.com carries her complete CD for the Motor City label.

Not to put a damper on you Lumpy, but your information is incorrect. She is alive but ailing. Rasputin's right, she can't sing or walk.

I noticed that Pat Lewis' Motor City CD is flying off the shelves of amazon.com. Several dealers have sold out. Sadly, I doubt if Ms. Lewis will benefit from much of this. I know Ian Levine is fegquently dissed here, but, at least he recorded these people. I'm certainly not crazy about everything he recorded. He gave us the last recordings of Mary Wells and Hattie Littles. I can't second guess his motives and "hear say" unfair business deals to the artists, but, I'm glad I have those recordings. He recorded probably the last stuff of Wanda Rogers and perhaps many others I'm not aware of. I'm glad I have these treasured recordings....again, I agree some of the material and instrumentals were "iffy". It's sad that the artists did not get what they were told or earned on these. Anyway, I'm glad I have Pat's Motorcity's recording and I think it's very good. It got a very good review on amazon.com, too. I wish Pat a speedy recovery and hope everyone supports her to the best of their ability.

Lumpy;
I believe Traylewd's mother was Vivian Lewis, who also may have recorded as Tamala Lewis. She was from New Jersey , I believe, and was involved with George clinton (TreyLewd's father) prior to his Detroit recording career. I may be wrong , but I think this is how the story goes--two different Lewis's

Lumpy, Steve

Tamala Lewis had a single on the Marton label
around '65 produced by George Clinton. I remember
George saying in an interview that Tamala was his girlfriend at the time. I don't know if Vivian's
her real name but it's quite possible - Tamala
sounds a bit too contrived to be real.

I'm very familiar with Quay Lewd of the Tubes,
haven't heard Trey Lewd.

(co-written by G.C & produced by Geo-Si-Mik)

Look At What I Almost Missed*/No Baby, No (SOLID HIT 101) 1966
(* written & produced by G.C)

Warning/I'll Wait* (SOLID HIT 105) 1967

No One To Love (SOLID HIT 109) 1967

The Loser/ Baby I Owe You Something (Instrumental)

For TAMALA LEWIS :

You Won't Say Nothing/If You Can Stand Me (MARTON 1002) 1964

Whatever; I think the point of this thread is here's yet another musician that has enhanced our lives in need of financial and medical attention. It amazes me that we have unlimited resources to squander on BULLSHIT wars and yet never seem to get any kind of universal medical coverage or assistance together in this country. We're better than that, I would think , and yet there always seem to be other more debatable holes to throw our cash into.
New Orleans has a Musicians Clinic, for low income musicians to utilize. Doctors (and Dentists ! ) volunteer their services. Evidently, there are also grants and no-or low- interest loans available to help working poor musicians purchase homes in N.O. also. That city at least acknowledges the contribution music has made to it's history. We need that mentality everywhere.

Agreed SteveK....

Sue had an exellent idea on another thread and I think if enough people get together we can have at least something to help the singers & musicians out, even if it simply support, kindess, and friendship...A phone call, company, check on them..if every fan adopted a musician/singer like big brothers or something...sometimes they just need some TLC....
A great thing to get schools involved in....
they can learn music history from a great legend and make a friend too...

Vickie;
That IS an excellent idea ; I imagine the nuts and bolts of working out the logistics would be the tough part , of course ; having people with the time and means to help in the same proximity as the people in need etc - but a beautiful idea and something that deserves serious thought.

Yes Steve K you are right about that....
Living in Europe I do not realize how hard times must be for elderly musicians because over here everything is being taken care of wether you're rich or poor, but it sure is a pity that people who have entertained the world are now in such distress...
