Little Anthony & Imperials (those splits),Smokey & The Miracles, David Ruffan & The Temptations, The Cadillacs to name a few. Of course my man Jackie and those splits & backover flips. JB was great in his day. For plain dancers The Nicholas Brothers, Baby Lawrence, & Groundhog were tops!

Michael Jackson admittingly copied everything from Fred Astair, Jackie Wilson, & James Brown.

Back in the days most groups had to dance AND sing... not like today... I have a fantastic video of the FLAMINGOS singing 'Rock'n Roll' and they swing across the whole stage doing splits and all...
Sammy Davis could dance and sing too... LOL

Wonder B,
I was just going to mention Sammy Davis also. The man could really dance.

Al "TNT" Braggs & the Al-Tones who recorded for
the Peacock label and were from Texas, I think
Houston. They were dynamic--Al plus two guys
and a girl (and she was really cute!!!). I saw
them in Oct. 1966 with Wilson Pickett, Billy
Stewart, etc. They had GREAT routines and very
good harmonies as well.

Mel, do you have any info. on this group? I
believe some of them were siblings of Al Braggs,
if not all of them, because I remember one was
Johnny Braggs. I also know that Al Braggs is
no longer living, but I do not know any details
of his death.

Does anyone have any info. on Al Braggs? I know
he wrote Aretha's Share Your Love With Me which
he originally recorded. I also liked his That's
All A Part Of Loving You.

Randy, off the top of my head I remember Al "TNT" Braggs recorded for one of Don Robey's label, and maybe others, and traveled the chitlin' circuit in the sixties with Bobby "Blue" Bland and possibly another act. They were regulars and would hit the same cities two to three times a year staying for week long engagements at night/supper clubs. The shows were always well promoted. I can still remember the colorful announcement posters on telephone poles and the ads in the weekly black newspaper. I never knew them to do theaters or arenas. Later Bland did a lot of touring with B. B. King; they played in larger venues.
