I was digging though my collection last night
and happened to run across a song that I used to
love during the year of 1971. The song was,
" I Know I'm In Love", by Chee Chee & Peppy on
the Buddah label. I know Jesse James, the man
responsible for Cliff Nobles hit, "The Horse"
and the late Fantastic Johnny C classic, "Boogaloo
Down Broadway", also produced Chee Chee & Peppy
as well. Do any of you remember this song and
if so, what fond memories do you have ????

I remember the song, too, also their other song around that time "Never Never Never." They were a young teen duo, boy and girl, I think from the Philadelphia area. I remember seeing them on Soul Train in 71.

I remember them on American Bandstand. They were
brother/sister and got their professional names
from their pet dogs. They also had an LP, but
after the 2nd single, I never heard of them again.

Oh no, I remember this song well! LOL I performed it in a junior high school talent show with a freind and we won first prize. We had a serious dance routine and everything! Thanks for the memory Chancellor of Soul!

Great song and a good ablum I have to say. The one thing I could never get passed was the big Afro wig on Chee Chee on the cover, here was this little girl with this big old wig. Who did this to this sweet little child, oh well it was the 70's.

Sure wish we could find them today!

I personally think "I Know I'm In Love" was one of my favorite songs of the 1970s.

I do have the album, and I know that the song is on a CD called "Soulful Pop."

I came across a more recent 45 by Chee Chee and Peppy a few years ago from 1981 "Super You / Together You and I" on the Branding Iron label out of Philadelphia. It was written and produced by Jesse James, who also worked on their early 70s stuff.

Does anyone know their real names?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Chancellor of Soul (63.78.189.114) on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 - 12:44 pm:

Hey J5Collector,
Chee Chee was born Keith Boilling in 1957 in
Frankfort, PA. Peppy was born Dorothy Moore in
Morristown, PA in 1959. Chee Chee was in group
called the "Ambassadors of Song". The first label
they both recorded for a little before they
signed with Buddah was, " Branding Iron".

Peace,

Then the single mentioned on Branding Iron could
not be from 1981 unless it was reissued that year.
Also, I thought they were brother and sister.
That's what I remember from the Dick Clark inter-
view on American Bandstand. I also remember they
said they chose their names from their pets. Of
course, I know, they could still be brother and
sister with different last names.

Hey Randy,
Maybe Chee Chee & Peppy were brother & sister
in real life or they could have said it for
company promotional reasons as well.

Peace,

Thanks for the info, Mike. Is Chee Chee's last name Bolling or Boilling?

Randy, I don't know the history of the record, I just came across it at a record shop and bought it because it was a Chee Chee and Peppy song I'd never heard of. I thought it would be early 70s bubblegum but the A side, Super You, has a strong disco beat. The label states p1981 and the voices on it are definitely adult voices. (Peppy, in particular, developed a full rich voice as an adult.) There was apparently an LP, too, called Super You.

I have an old issue of "Soul" that has a photo of Chee Chee and Peppy backstage at a 1971 Jackson 5 concert in Philadelphia, looking very cool. But didn't everyone look cool at those early 70s J5 concerts? I know I myself was stylin' in my purple overalls!

Chee Chee & Peppy had another full length LP on the BRANDING IRON label from Philly and the title was the 45 trck SUPER YOU... I can only blame myself for not having bought that rare LP when I saw it for the first and last time, but I didn't have the kind of money that was asked for it back then...
If you could tell me how to post a picture (from my files) I could put that great Chee Chee & Peppy photo right here... LOL)
