Let's salute two of the pillars of soul music.

"I've no time to lose" and "Just out of reach" make by goosebump meter go boink!!!!

"Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" still rocks to this day...
I remember seeing an old clip from Dick Clark's "Where The Action Is" of Carla & Otis performing "Tramp" - classic moment.

Carla Thomas is a Soul Icon. I have many of her original 45's, the B-A-B-Y LP and "King & Queen"LP. I always loved "Something Good(Is Gonna Happen to You") & "I'll Always Have Faith In You".During a big part of her successful recording career she was attending college & ofcourse that limited her personal appearances.

Carla Thomas was one who may have had success as an artist, she knew that an education was as important if not moreso. She earned both bachelor's & master's degrees in college while recording for Stax/Volt.

I hear Carla's mind is not all there anymore. Supposedly, among other things, she goes to the Memphis Airport and hangs out, not going anywhere or buying any tickets. Just walks around. She was staying with Rufus before he passed. I heard this from a pretty reliable source--a record company owner in Memphis--about two years ago. Any updates on Carla's condition?

Hi Scratcher, I sure hope thats not true. She's in the new movie/documentary Only the Strong Survive and I would think that would be pretty recent concert/interview footage. Now I really want to see it soon.

The lady who co-owns High Stacks Records told me this a few years ago Tony. She was going to use Carla on a compilation CD but nixed the idea. It's good that she's well enough to participate in the movie. People do recover and I was looking for updates.

Not sure of the correct Title 4 the song, but she once had a song where she would sing~
the rich have to cry
the poor have to cry
you have to cry
and I have to cry
and I really liked her song "Pick Up The Pieces"
vocalists just don't do it like they used 2, and I'm like Stevie,I wish those days would come back once more~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ummmmm

Medusa9e you're thinking of "There Comes a Time," an R&B hit for Betty Everett in 1969. Carla may have recorded it for an album though.

correct title: "There'll Come a Time," it was written by Eugene Record.

I have a killer video of Carla & Jimmy Scott doing a duet on his "Masquerade Is Over"at Sweetwaters in Mill Valley, CA. She put her southern soul spin on it, fantastic! Carla doesn't get the credit she deserves. I've been diggin'her since "GeeWiz".
