The Supremes did a wonderful version of it on
Supremes A Go Go and no disrespect to the Isleys but I like the Supremes version better. Its one of the few Motown songs by the Isleys that I like.

Medusa9e:
"This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)" was written by none other than the hitmaking team of Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier & Brian Holland - the Great H-D-H.

Stephanie:
H-D-H produced both versions by the Isleys & the Supremes. Three years ago, Ron Isley said in a radio interview on the now-defunct Jammin' 105.1 FM (NYC) that the Supremes' version was recorded first.

Vickie:
The following artists also recorded this classic:
Zombies
Delroy Wilson
Contours (later version of the group for Ian Levine)

Lamont Dozier even recorded a version of "This Old Heart Of Mine."

Now, how about that video with Rod Stewart & Ron Isley wearing those Continental suits singing this classic.....:)

Rod Stewart and Ron Isley, that is a groovy video. Stewart is just having himself a ball on that video.

Donnie Elbert did a great version on Mojo, over here. I thought that was the original, until I was educated.

I'll check through the logs to see who else and when at Motown.

A great example of the Jamerson style of holding a note over the bar, now considered part of the "Motown bass" style. That's on the Isley's version. He doesn't do it on the Supremes. Great, great song.

John C - Good point on Jamerson's playing. He does the same on "You Can't Hurry Love". It always flips me out because it's off but it works so well!
On Phil Collins' YCHL, the bass player does not do it.

The drummer (Benny Benjamin ?) really rocks on the Isley's version. I think that really puts it over the top

When I was 15 (1986) my dad & I were watching an episode of Moonlighting (American TV - Bruce Willis) & "This Old Heart Of Mine" by the Isley's came blasting out of the TV soundtrack. My dad said, "It's your mom's song!" When my mom watched the episode she said, " It's my song! It's different! Who's singing the song?" She only knew the Supremes version off the Supremes A - GO - GO album. The next week or so, the local oldies station put it into rotation due to the plug on Moonlighting. I myself had never heard it before that time. I'm not sure how big a hit the song was the first time around? Top 20? Anyone know?

anyone ever notice the similarity to the impressions' "can't satisfy"?

I think vice-versa might be more accurate, seeing as how HDH were awarded co-writers' credits to the Impressions song ;o)

The most popular Motown song in the Glasgow area according to the amount of times I've been asked for it at parties etc. It was a hit on several occasions in the UK

If I am not mistaken it was a hit first in England? The Brits know good music.
