Yes it's a boot - not sure when it was issued
(or by whom)

It was written by Helen and Kay Lewis and produced by Frank Wilson but who are Brenda & Boys?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Davie Gordon (193.122.21.42) on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 - 03:01 pm:

Brenda Holloway - the boys presumably means the
band.

The track's an unissued sixties Tamla track
that finally saw release on the "Cellarful of
Motown" comp.

Thanks Davie,

... Funny... you ask an almost impossible question ... and in a couple of hours you have got an answer... and I can go back to sleep again, or back to the pub or whatever... This is a great, great forum. I'm listening to the track right now...

... crazy! I ask for a record and I have it right beside me... fantastic... just by asking soulfriends thousands miles away...

Davie,
wasnt the Motor label a re-issue label?
As I am sure that the flip side to this record is
'I'm on the Right Track'
a record written by Joseph Norris.
cheers
mel.

Hey Horse,
hows it going mate!

Mel,

No - that's a bootleg. How could they reissue
something which had never been released before ?

The label logo's a variant on a logo used on
early Motown albums.

The ZTSC matrix number - if it was genuine - would
indicate a pressing date around 60-61, years before Brenda, Frank and the Lewis Sisters joined Motown.

I don't remember that Joseph Norris track off the top of my head - it may well be the B-side - but
it's still a boot.

This is a detail from the cover of the first album on Motown by Mary Wells.

This logo has never been used on a Motown label (45 or LP) as far as Im concerned.

There are also boots of this single that have plain white labels. I think both boots were done in the past 15 years or so, and probably more recently than that. Great sound quality, though, and great songs.

People interested in a record like the one mentioned in this thread don't buy them at record stores. They find them at goodwills, flea markets, in people's attics, collector shows, magazines like Discoveries or Goldmine, or online.

Pardon my cultural ignorance, but what's a "goodwill"?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Scratcher (65.132.76.236) on Thursday, May 01, 2003 - 09:33 am:

Goodwill is a charity organization in the United States; Goodwill Stores are a part of Goodwill; these stores sell items that are donated to them and have always been a good place to find old 45 rpms. The stores also sell clothing, furniture, baby stuff, etc. They're all over the USA.

Richie,

Goodwill shops are the equivalent of our Oxfam
shops.

We also have the Salvation Army Stores (same concept as Goodwill Stores), which are also good places to forage for old records.
