Are you the songwriter that had several songs recorded by MARY WELLS on 20th Century Fox Records,"My Minds Made Up" and "Me Without You" among them? What a great writer!!

Sid,

Come back on SD and tell us some of the stories "from the trenches".
I heard that you smoked 'em at the 100 club.

Talk soon.

Sidney, please come back and post for us. I would like to know about 'I hurt on the other side', your classic that never ages. How did you come up with that title? When I listen to it now, it sits on a pedestal above many songs. I had a chat with one of your backing singers from Friday night. They were cool! Did you know I was invited by some ladies to go on stage and sing with the backers? I love call and response and have always anticipated what should be sung and often sing my own version of how I perceive the backing, if I am uncertain what comes next!! It seems the ladies thought I was either a crap singer or good enough to come on stage ha ha!

Thank you for reminding us all that night, how important your friend Mr Hoagy Lands was to you and indeed all of us. On that note, I was the fifth in line to get into the 100 Club and parked my car right outside the London Palladium. I felt like a proper Londoner guvnr! I chatted to those in the queue about you, as they had seen you before, and they were right, I was in for a treat.

Your lovely wife mentioned that you have been in the studio! Do you have any news? I am sure we would all love to know what you are up to, with new songs and the like. If you do not respond I may have to tell the story about your hat on Friday night!!!

cheers

So glad that there are people out there who still
remember my name and recall some of the music that I was involved in creating.Yes I did the songs for Mary Wells with JJ Jackson, and until recently had not heard them for twenty years. I hurt On The Other Side which I also wrote with JJ was also a big favorite of mine it was sort of how I was feeling about a broken heart at the time(dont ask). I'm currently doing dates on the Nothern Soul scene in the UK.
The crowds have been very enthusiastic and I think I might come back soon and do it again. This is my third trip here and certainly not my last.
Bobby Eli I'll be contacting you soon as I return home and give you the full details.Long live the music.
Peace and love,
Sid Barnes

Sidney,
you sir!
will without a doubt,
Always be in style!
I am on your great web-site,
as I mentioned on there, you are an absolute legend on the rare/northern soul scene.
Its great to have you on here Sidney,
never in a million years would I have thought I would be conversing with the artists that got me on the scene in the first place.
A while ago there was an acetate of another version of your 'Youll always be in style'that was reputedly Patti Austin, but I heard you say that it may well be the lead singer of the Ad-LIBS (whose name I cant recall)Can you remember if it was her Sidney,as after you mentioned her it really does sound like her.
Many thanks for your time,
and I apologise if I am going over old territory yet again.
Regards
mel(forever going to a shin-dig).

Sidney Barnes !!! There are lots of folks who who remember your name. The Parliaments "Heart Trouble" is one of my all-time favorites, THANK-YOU

I don't know if you'll get the time to answer a couple of trivial questions, but I'd love to hear how Geo-Si-Mik came together and if you recall ever working with George C. at Jobete NY. Also, were you with Golden World when the company was sold or had you already moved on to Don Davis' Solid Hit. Any reflections at all are welcome. We love stories.

By the Way, "Soul Man" by Rotary Connection is one of the more insane peices of music ever recorded. Its as if the Sam & Dave cut was given the funkiest possible treatment right along-side the most anglo-cised treatment and neatly put together. Complete craziness

Peace & Respect

Rich

I see my friends every day
as I pass them on the street.

I stop to tell a joke or two
I smile at every one I meet...........

Stephanie,
you said it sister!
what a record.

Have you heard it by Jerry Cook on Capitol Records(no.5981).
What another superb version(andthensome).

It was the Jerry Cook version I first heard around 1972ish maybe a little later and stephanie,
if you dont know it,
then sister check it out.

Both cuts are second to none,
to me anyway.

I heard Sidneys slightly faster(I think)around 1974/5ish.Not certain.
And still very obscure on the
Blue Cat Label(no.125)@around the 100+ mark.
But hey,
lets not beat about the bush here,
go the extra and around a cool 300 mark get it on the even rarer
Red Bird Label(no.10054).

Has this guy ever done anything bad.
Not to my knowledge.

What an artist.
Lets not forget

'Talkin'bout a shindig' the flipside on the Bluestone Label(no.402)
which is a sound to get every one out on the floor.
Followed by
'You'll always be in style'
on Red Bird(no.10039).
But hey.....................

I see my friends every day
as I pass them on the street.

I stop to tell a joke
or two
I smile at every one
I meet..................

Right-on Stephanie
you sure know where its at.
mel.

Hey music lovers,
So sorry I havent answered your e-mails but when I returned to the states after the seven week tour of England I had so much to catch up on and I've been really bogged down with the day job and trying to get the career back on track here in the states. But in a few days I promise I'll take the time and get back to all of you good folks. Thanks so much for your love and support. I've
got some really great new music I'm working on and will fill you in on all the goings on. Thanks again.
Peace and love,
Sid Barnes
