David and Lowell, yet again, I am riveted to the computer reading this about one of my favourite labels. And you are right David when you say we were spellbound by the Ric Tic label over here. The label had quality and mystery, and when I first became aware there was something magic about the songs, I stumbled across the Ric Tic Relics album on Motown. Then, things started to fit into place. Great label scans and the Golden World clock - fantastic. How I would like to set my watch by that one day! Maybe we could ask the owner whether we could use it as a screen saver on the PC!! Well done!!

I suspect, like everyone else, for many years I was eager to learn more about the magical group of Wingate labels that formed the backbone of my love for Detroit Soul. So many questions, so few answers - till now. Lowell and David - thank you for fulfilling that yearning! 'Nuff said :o)

We thought the previous episodes couldn't be beaten and we were wrong! Thanks guys, a wonderful ending to a magnificent piece of work. After thirty or so years of recognising names appearing on these labels I feel we have really got to know these artists, writers, producers, arrangers, studio engineers and label owners personally. I once very nearly bought an unopened box of 25 copies of Stop Her On Sight from Tim Brown, not to sell on, but just to own a little piece of history. I bet there are more copies of Ed and Joanne's output over here in Britain than at home. Any collection would be incomplete without a few of these goodies.

Now, would that clock fit over the mantelpiece?

Wonderful work. I've learned so much about this great label. Thanks again and thank you for allowing me to contribute the Sonny Sanders photo.

I am currently in Southern Spain soaking up the sun.

Next up comes the story of one of the pioneers of the Detroit Sound.....Ms Johnnie Mae Matthews by Graham "acooolcat" Finch.

It´s a cracker, please stay tuned.

I certainly agree, it would be great if there were a parts 7&8. Out of all the soloists and vocal groups you all forgot about The Twenty Grands remember their cut "Giving Up Her Love Is Like Giving Up The World". Can i get some feedback please.

David,

I was looking at your "Golden World Part 6" presentation, and I found the item with the picture at the console of Cal Harris, unknown, and Mike McLean, followed by my letter to Bob DeOrleans.

That unknown person in the picture is:

Peter Burkowitz
Director of Group Recording Managment
Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft mbh
Hannover, West Germany

If you have no objections, I would appreciate it if you could replace "unknown" with his name.

Hi Don

Thanks for mentioning the Twenty Grands.

Are you saying they should be in the Golden World Story?

David

David,

Thanks David. That page looks really spiffy now!

I like the way that you cropped the picture and put that blue border around it.

Mike McLean
