Does anyone out there remember Freestyle? It never got the MTV play (God knows they threw enough other crap out there!) I think Expose put out some great Freestyle music with strong vocals. Really, all three girls were lead singers, which makes for a strong vocal recording.

Most freestyle music was, in my opinion very similar in its context and for a very limited marketplace. True there were a handful of freestyle records that slipped through the cracks and became hits, such as Noel's Silent Morning which was huge, Stevie B had several good ones, Safire, Tka, Amber, the other Marc Anthony on Mic Mac.
Philly and Chicago had a huge freestyle audience for a while. Unfortunately most of the artists, with some exeptions made very little money with the genre. The majors did not embrace it much at all.

Eli: Go head' on!!!...you know about Stevie B!!??

Freestyle is very popular in LA...Freestyle was an extension of disco and electro funk. Freestyle has a very cult like audience (I being one who still loves freestyle),a lot of the material was not accepted by the major with the exception of Lisa Lisa, Expose and Company B who all had major deals but were not necessarily marketed as "Freestyle Artists"..

Speaking of Company B.....I kind of liked them. There were a lot of girl groups in the Freestyle era....Expose, Company B, Cover Girls, Laissez Faire, Pajama Party, Sweet Sensation, Seduction...The group Seduction had a hot CD back in 89, I think. Michelle Visage was in that group. She later went on to co-host with RuPaul on TV. I think she's a dj in New Jersey or New York now.
