I once heard a bit of Tony's first recording, which from my foggy memory was called "Hot Rod Car."
Does anyone know which record label released this, or have any other information?
I would guess it dates c. 1960
TIA, Graham

Hi Medusa9e!
Tony Clarke also had another 'Chess' hit in (early months of) 1964, as well.
Locally, it had a lot of radio 'air-play' here in Detroit, way back when... on radio 'greats' WJBK, and WKNR, at the time.
"(Story Of) WOMAN, LOVE, AND A MAN"
--CHESS Records; number 1880
--January, 1964

Graham,
I'm pretty sure the record that you are talking about was on the Stepp label. There were also a couple of other interesting records on the label. The Barbees (early Velvelettes) and a Herman Griffin record that was also on Anna.
Later,
Eric

Hi Eric, I know about the 2 Stepp 45s you mention, but obviously didn't know Tony's first song was on this label too.
Jim and Medusa9e, I'm also aware of his Chess 45s, which are great songs. Have you heard "Landslide" that was also released on Chess? The Fascination label in Detroit released his "Love Must Be Taboo," which is another good one.
Thanks,
Graham

Thanks Davie,
I think he was known as "Tall Tonio" on the Stepp 45.
