ok, how many of you can name songs that~~~~ while U R relaxing, talking, cooking, driving, doing everyday chores, partying etc, and all of a sudden that certain song comes on and U just gotta stop whatever it is U R doing, and have 2 get up on the floor and start dancing, I mean it just blows U away and U really get carried away~~~~~~~~~even if U have 2 dance alone.
(as some older folks put it, U have 2 cut the rug??) LOL, I'm sure all of us can name a few~
I'm not even going 2 start it off~~Go 4 it~~~~~~~

Well, way back in my 'younger' days....
One particular song hit I would always seem to catch myself movin' to, back when, whenever I heard this record being played, it had to be Dobie Gray's 'Top 10' *smash* from 1965... "THE IN CROWD".
I thought that particular 'jam'... it just had the certain 'sound' that would make you wanna move (and get both your hands together), man... I just thought Dobie Gray's "In Crowd" was the 'COOLEST'!
By john dixon (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 11:21 am: |
Here's a song that always gets my increasingly tired creaky joints movin'; I've even got a little car seat boogie for it when it comes on the radio. And this song's dance-floor appeal cuts across age, gender, and all social backgrounds too. To illustrate, just two weeks ago I went to a wedding and early on at the reception no one would dance, the alcohol apparently not having kicked in, yet when the opening percussion kicked off Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up", everyone-young, old, and in-between-rose together as if on some unspoken cue and hit the floor and the reception party was truly underway and never let up from that point on.

Man, THAT one was so infectious when it hit. Was that around 1979?
Michael wasn't the greatest singer, but boy, he could put a smokin track together! As worn out as Ree's "Freeway OF Love" is, it's still a superbad dance jam. His production is always stellar. Had a similar rhythm feel as "I Can't Help Myself".

I Love this. For my friend's 50th birthday I made a dance CD: 'Stones, Beatles, other good dance music, but no takers. Because I sometimes think I'm too Motownish and Supremes---I stayed away from that music. Big mistake. Sugar Pie Honey Bunch (I Can't Help Myself) turned the night around. An instant intro that got everyone dancing. The second song was Love Child --which no one knew the words to, but everyone could yell --LOVE CHILD -- at all the right spots, and then some. Motown saved the day, that night. And it was a memorable 50th birthday party.

How about
Dobie Gray's
classic called
'out on the floor'
cut on the Charger Record Label.
And says it all,
describes the atmosphere on the floor spot on,
as he is totally into the groove in a big way.
Another one for me is the
Rex Garvin
and the
Mighty Cravers cut of
'I Gotta Go Now(up on the floor)'
Which came out on the import
Like Record Label
although I have it on a uk copy.Another dancer with the lyrics and great back-ups on it describing how it is being totally in a world of your own whilst out there.
Hey R&B,
Great list man,
have you heard the other side of
'Candy'
by The Astors called
'Twilight Zone'
I say the other side to 'Candy'
but I think it was only the flip side on the uk copy.
Although it did come out with 'Mystery Woman'as the flip to it in the States.
Anyway,
I have always loved this track.

Hey Sly fan I see you dig those break filled jams... and Rare Essence... Heyyyyyyyyyyyy are there any gog fans out there? LOL
I've got to be the #1 GoGo fan in my area...
I have been buying the stuff steadily since 1985... for those in Europe there was a fantastic BBC special on the subject where they followed Redds & the Boys and covered the GoGo scene from the angle of their sax player...
It was just awesome... We did see another fantastic band called SLUG-GO which featured Greg Thomas (now with P-Funk All Stars) and Glenn Ellis (another great bass player) whom I've seen live a couple of times with Chuck Brown...
Anyway there are so many jams that can make you dance...
