Has anyone seen this rare as heck 1965 album as a CD release? It has to be one of the only true Funk Brothers albums around, but credited to "Earl Van Dyke & the Soul Brothers".

I head that it may have been released as a Japan import (like a LOT of the really good stuff these days). If that's true, it would be quite expensive.

Many of the tracks appear to be the originals without vocals, but allows a real listener to hear all the subtlies in the mixes.

I actually still have my vinyl version and have ben offered a nice amout for it, but I ain't sellin' it (even though my turntable is packed away).

Anyone with any info on this gem? I'd sure like to get it since I'm on a Funk Brothers jag after the show!

That album was issued in Belgium some time ago....I won't dwell on that release.

I assume you have already have the SITSOM CD cos it does have Bernadette and You Keep me Hanging On both in the format that you seem to like.

The word is that a deluxe edition of SISTOM DVD will contain more such tracks...and who knows what else is in store for us in the future!

Thanks much for the info, John.

I found that album at the time to be a novelity, sort of a "one off" kind of thing. I had actually forgotten about it until recently, let alone that my copy was still in fairly decent shape.

I sense you didn't care for it much. Well, until recently, it was one of the very few examples of the Funks without the vocal interference, if ya wanted to groove on just THEM.

A Japan release I could understand....but Belgium?
How did THAT happen?

I'd suggest that John's reluctance to recommend the Belgian CD issue has less to do with musical considerations than a question of legality. The Belgian release (which couples the Earl's album with that of Choker Campbell) was a bootleg plain and simple, issued without any authorisation from Motown. There's nothing wrong with the content - just the illicit nature of its release!

Whoa!

Thanks much for 'spaining it to me. I had no idea....Something fishy in Belgium, I see.

I don't support any products where the proceeds don't go directly to the artist.

Sooooo......next subject! Thanks.
