Over the years, I have seen Andre Williams credited on record labels as either Arr./Prod./Writ. Was there only one Andre Williams in the soul biz? If yes, he certainly was very busy.

Soulpuss:
Andre Williams has been doing his thing for almost fifty years, starting in the doo-wop era with groups such as the Five Dollars. His singles on Fortune Records are classics ("Goin' Down To Tiajuana", "Jailbait", "Pass The Biscuits Please") - the biggest was "Bacon Fat", which was released nationally on Epic Records in 1956 and turned into a #6 R&B hit. His hip street-jive speak predated rap music by many years.

As for his soul years..geez, where do we begin...worked at Motown for a few years - produced and/or wrote for the Temptations, Mary Wells...co-wrote "Mojo Hannah" while at Motown... wrote & produced "Twine Time" (Alvin Cash) and "Shake A Tailfeather"...served as A&R manager for Mercury's Blue Rock label - produced Sir Mack Rice's "Mustang Sally" among others...produced Mary Wells' "Use Your Head" for 20th Century Fox...recorded for Avin ("Rib Tips"), Ric Tic (produced the Dramatics' "Inky Winky Wang Dang Doo"),Sport ("Pearl Time"), Chess ("Cadillac Jack"), UNI/MCA(produced Green Berets' "Lord Send Me Somebody") and Duke-Peacock (produced the Masters of Soul & Bobby "Blue" Bland)...tried getting into funk & disco with the group Velvet Hammer.

I know there's more but that's as much as I can tell you for now!

Kev & (Soulpuss You ask many questions Who are you? Let me know!)

I was just going to post a couple of interesting Andre Williams label scans but hesitated... this will keep me busy for the rest of the weekend... I'll take care of my wife, kids and grandchildren instead... we are going to the archipelago, just outside Stockholm! This site is too much! Fantastic!!! Thanks David & Lowell, Ralph and others involved

Just saw this tourist ad to our country side/home, where I am going now The medieval town of Stockholm expanded along the Baltic Sea, where an great archipelago of 24 000 islands, Sherries and lumps of rock have protected it from the open seas. Most of the landmasses are uninhabited; merely about 10.000 people live in the archipelago and only in the major islands, although the popularity of the area for boating means it can be hard finding anchorage in high summer. The Stockholm archipelago can endures up to 20 cm of ice through most of the winter, which makes it ideal for long-distance skating as well. In the first place it is a paradise for boating activities and to have a place in the country into.

All the best soul friends...

Lars
