I was reading on another thread (and I can't recall which one it was) about someone trying to locate Robert Bateman. I contacted Jim Ellis (Satintones lead) yesterday and asked about him, as it was thru Jim that I met Robert back in '98. Jim has been trying to reach him at his # in Detroit which he said has been disconnected. He's going to try to check it out further, and will keep me posted if he is able to locate him. Jim keeps in touch with Sonny (Sanders) in Chicago, who is now very involved in religion.

Hi Nikki,

Doesn't sound too promising does it ? - thanks for
the news and please let us know if you hear anything from Jim.

It's rather saddening when you're about to post a discography in tribute to such an important
person on the Detroit scene and hear that they
don't seem to be doing too well.

Strangely enough I was reading Randy Taraborelli's
book "Call her Miss Ross" which tells the story that Berry Gordy offered the managership of the
Supremes to Bob in their early days. Bob turned it down as "no one wanted to get involved with that skinny kid who sang through her nose".
The comment that sticks in my mind, is his ironic
response, "Do I Look Rich ?".

And when you think that it was Bob who invited the
Supremes to audition for Motown .......

Medusa9e:
Next time you speak to Robert & Barrett, please send them my regards. I enjoyed the work they did for Motown and beyond, especially Mary Wells' 20th Century Fox singles ("Use Your Head" was co-written by Barrett). Also tell them that Andre Williams is a dear mentor of mine.

Barrett Strong has a website with contact info listed. His studio is located I believe in Southfield, he has his own label, plus rents it out to others. He's not very hard to get a hold of, cruises around Detroit in a Bentley, and could probably tell you how to contact Robert Bateman.

Scratcher, would you be so kind and please post the URL link to Barrett's web site here. I tried to do it via google search, and most of the links were outdated or went nowhere. Thanks in advance,

Nikki

Barrett apparently took his website down. I just checked: http://www.blarrittrecords.com/ and got this "this website is temporarily unavailable" message. I accessed it less than three months ago. Blarritt is the name of of Strong's record company. Too bad he's become hard to get to again, Barrett has some very enlightening tales of about Motown and the Chicago scene but you have to catch him at the right time for him to open up.

Last time I looked, and talked with Robert Bateman, he was listed in the Detroit telephone directory. This was about two years ago.
