Does anyone recall any info about an old pressing facility ran out of a house located in Wayne MI. A friend of a friend purchased this old house and refurbished it. Tale has it that this was the last pressing facility in the area and Smokey and others would always do business there. Any info would be appreciated.

Horse, what time period are we talking about -
late fifties ?
As far as I know the early Tamla group releasers were pressed up in Owosso, then by Columbia and RCA. I doubt Mike McLean would have stood for
having Motown releases being pressed up by
anything less than the best available pressing
plant.
Incidentally where are our "engineering
dept"?- Mike and the others seem to have been very
quiet recently.

In the run off grooves of most of my mid 60's Motown 45's it says Nashville Metra in cursive. Is that a pressing plant...I always assumed so.

Tony, that's probably "Nashville Matrix" - they
probably handled pressing for the southern states,
other plants would have handled the north, west coast ...

Mike's in the huff.

Ed Wolfrum appears to have gone for good.

I think it's very sad.

Davie,

I'm unsure about any further info at this time. I'll have to ask the home owner for more details and post at that time. I appreciate your responding to the thread. I'm not even sure if it's actually a pressing house due the fact that the new owner is not related to the music business at all.

I have been reading a lot of the older topics and I see some things that need to be cleared up so I'm starting with this one. The house in Wayne,Mi that was refered to above was my old house. I moved from Detroit in 1994, we did not press records, but did cut masters that were plated for the pressing of records, we also did other mastering work for CD's and Cassettes. I moved again 3 years ago in the same area and I'm still cutting records. I have been involded in the record business since 1965 in Detroit so I 'm going to try and tie up some loose ends from time to time on old topics that deserve a correct answer.

Ron,

Thanks for responding to the thread. Your info seems to be what I was looking for. I got half the story from a friend outside of the music business. Since he couldn't really give me details, I thought I would drop a line here. As I guessed, someone would have knowledge if it was a legit story. I never thought I would actually get the owner of the property. If possible, could you share some stories relating to some of the artist that may have frequented your establishment? Again, Thank You

Ron,

Thanks for taking the time to go through the old posts - your knowledge will hopefully help to clear up a few gray areas.
