Dick Gamble: Thanks for the info, on Cornshucks! Jimmy Scott also from Ohio sang on the same "gig"with her back in the day in Cinncinati, she was also on the road with him and Caldonia's Revue for a breif while around 1944, Some areas of her frasing remind me of Jimmy's. But I feel the female vocalist that comes the closest to him in frasing on ballads is Big Maybelle, tho nobody sounds quite like a young Jimmy, his voice was pristine pure, clear as a bell with truthful uninhibited emotion layed on the lyric. Hi Melandthensome; No unfortanetly that may be the only Big Maybelle song I either don't know or can't remember, wish I did...I'll be looking for it now! Thanks,S.S.

Heres a bit of info regards the great
Howlin' Wolf
who I mention above.

Apparantley The Wolf
was known as 'Bull Cow'before his now famous name.
It stems from the fact that the Wolf was a very large and muscular guy.

Anyway,
he used to listen to his grandfather a lot when he would always be telling him stories about all the marauding wolf packs that would be in the Mississippi area.
All these stories left a lasting impression on 'Bull Cow'
and he duly changed his name with the added 'Howling'to it as he thought this projected the right image for his style.
I also agree that it is a lot better and sounds the part.A lot better than 'Bull Cow'.

Memphis Bluesman
Johnny Shine's who revered The Wolfman was quoted as saying this after his very first meeting with him.

'I was afraid of him,
just like you would be of
some kind of beast or something........
A Guy that played like
The Wolf,
Had sold his
Soul
to the
Devil'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow,
that is some statement!

I didn't know Whitney Houston's nickname was

irritable. H m m ...... :-)
