The last I heard was that she was living in
some sort of "halfway" house for people with
alcohol problems. Haven't seen anything to say her condition has either deteriorated or improved
- I'm not sure I've ever heard of Wanda suffering
from actual brain damage but information's not

I went to see the Marvelettes about 10-12 years ago, when they were launching Motor City records (Ian Levine). Wanda sang with the Marvelettes and I believe she made it through a couple of songs before she started to talk about other things. Her daughters? had to escort her off the stage while Wanda was screaming about something. She needs the prayers of the SD family.

I belong to the Yahoo Marvelettes group. Someone there is alledgedly writing a book about them of which Gladys is ambivalent about(I know she had her own manuscript-Letter To The Postman);Gladys is listed with an entertainment agency and looks vg. She retired briefly earlier this year as she was very upset/depressed as the fake Marvelettes played the White House. How sad about show Wanda was on. Had she been drinking? Unless shes had brain damage she can most likely recover fully. There is a Supremes-Marvelettes-Vandellas newsletter.

I think it is ashame that an original is forced
into retirement because of fakes and I believe
that Motown and Berry Gordy should step in and
right this wrong. I did not know that the fake
Marvelettes performed at the White House and
that distresses me (as it should everyone else)
because that is OUR building-we pay for it!!!!
I would like to know the details of this
performance so I can make an official complaint.

Does anyone know if the organization, FAME, which represents original artists fighting against fake groups, has made any progress in congress in regards to this issue? This is terrible that Gladys, an original Marvelette, cannot perform as one for the fear being sued. Is there anything that we, the public, can do to support people such as Gladys, etc.?

I do not know if she had been drinking. The M.C., Tom Sherman, handled the incident with grace and told the audience, "That's the way we planned it". After the show, Wanda's daughters? were trying to get her in the car, as Wanda insisted she had to go back and give her fans their monies worth. The show was on two nights, and also appearing were Kim Weston with Frankie Gaye, Martha and the Original Vandellas, the Velvelettes, FLOS (Former ladies of the Supremes?), the Contours, the Elgins, Hattie Littles, Francis Nero, I think Marv Johnson performed also.
