TALK ABOUT A GIANT IN THE MUSIC FIELD. HE IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE GREATEST OF THE GREATEST.

I BELIEVE HE WAS A MEMBER OF A DOO-WOP GROUP IN THE EARLY FIFTIES. ANYMORE INFO ON THE GREAT BERT KEYES. HE EVEN DID SOME WORK WITH THE DRAMATICS.

LET'S HEAR FROM THE REST OF THE FAMILY.

I agree..last year some kind soul on this forum put me onto an instrumental 45 on Clock records, "DO-DO DO BAH-AH" that Bert put out in the early 60's.
Another kind soul from this forum
got me the record (thanks Jeff!).It's great and i suspect it features Dave "baby" Cortez on organ and (possibly) Dee Dee Warwick on what "vocals" there are.
Since then i've been trying to find more records that he was involved with.He was certainly deserving of a high place in the R&B Hall of Fame.
I'd love to know more about his work.

I'm not sure where to even begin - he's the
arranger for literally hundreds of New York
records.

For starters you could check if there's a biography of him at Allmusic

www.allmusic.com

You should bookmark this URL - AllMusic is the
best on-line music encyclopaedia and I'd thoroughly recommend it as the first place to look
for biographies on just about any musician.

Davie,
your right there mate.
Bert Keyes has done loads of stuff.
I have just been listening to
Faye Crawford's
'what have I done wrong' on RCA(no.-47-8555)
Which as you probably know
is arranged and conducted by the legendary Mr.Bert Keyes himself along with producer Joe Rene and composer J.L.Jackson.
Has a great use of the strings with an arragement by Mr Keyes that along with Fayes strong and very soulful vocals just goes ever so subtly along with a soft yet strong and very pronounced backing.
Say no more.
